Following the success of this year’s Superman movie, fans are eagerly anticipating the upcoming Supergirl film and how it will expand the DC Universe. We only got a quick glimpse of Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El—collecting her dog Krypto—at the end of Superman. The Supergirl movie, directed by Craig Gillespie and coming out in June, will explore a different side of her character. While Kara wore a costume in Superman, her outfit in her own film will have some changes. A reveal of the new costume, shared by Omelete via Comic Book, recently debuted at CCXP Expo.

What are the main changes to the costume? First, the ‘S’ shield on her chest is a bit bigger, resembling the one worn by her cousin, Superman. Her belt is now solid gold, without any red. We also get a clear view of her cape, which was hidden under a coat in the previous movie. This new look should please fans of the comic book this film is based on, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, as it closely matches the design by Bilquis Evely – except for the ‘S’ shield. In fact, it’s probably more faithful to the comics than anything seen in the previous CW series.
It’s true to the comics that Kara Zor-El, or Supergirl, often changes her superhero outfit! Since her debut in 1959, she’s worn a lot of different costumes, some for just a short time and others for years. We enjoy the character no matter what she’s wearing. We’re especially excited about the upcoming movie and can’t wait to see Supergirl and Krypto battle aliens, particularly Lobo, who’s being played by Jason Momoa. Now that the costume has been revealed, hopefully a trailer for Supergirl is coming soon!
