New Horror Movies & TV Shows Set to Release in December 2025

December offers a surprising amount of spooky entertainment alongside the usual holiday spirit. Horror fans have plenty to look forward to, with new sequels in theaters and fresh content available for streaming on cozy winter nights. Studios are releasing big horror and thriller movies to take advantage of people having more free time during the holidays. Get ready for a month full of scares and suspense, both in cinemas and at home.

‘Playing Gracie Darling’ (2025)

A new supernatural horror movie arrives on Netflix December 1st. It follows a young woman who tries to prove a local legend is fake by performing a dangerous ritual called ‘playing Gracie Darling.’ She soon realizes the legend is terrifyingly true, and accidentally unleashes a sinister force into her life. The film explores what happens when you mess with the spirit world, and tells a frightening story of survival inside a haunted house.

‘Dust Bunny’ (2025)

I’m so excited for this new movie! Bryan Fuller, who’s brilliant, is working with Mads Mikkelsen again, and that’s always a good sign. It’s coming to theaters December 5th, and the story is wild – a little girl decides her neighbor is the only one who can help her get rid of the monster under her bed! It sounds like a really clever thriller, mixing creepy psychological stuff with classic monster movie vibes. Mads plays the neighbor, and apparently gets pulled into this really scary world the little girl believes in. From what I’ve heard, it’s going to take those childhood fears we all have and turn them on their head with a really dark, grown-up story.

‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’ (2025)

The popular animatronic characters are back in theaters December 5th! This new movie continues the scary story of a haunted pizza place where working the night shift means fighting for your life. Josh Hutcherson returns as Mike Schmidt, facing even more terrifying challenges and learning more about the evil behind the possessed machines. The incredibly realistic creatures are brought to life with effects from Jim Henson’s Creature Shop. Get ready for a more intense and frightening experience than the first movie!

‘Stranger Things’ (2016)

The hugely popular series returns to Netflix for its final season in two parts, releasing on December 25th and 31st. Things are looking grim for Hawkins as Vecna and the creatures from the Upside Down launch a full-scale attack. Eleven and her friends will have to team up for one last battle to save their town and finally close the portal to the Upside Down. Created by the Duffer Brothers, the ending promises answers to lingering questions and heartfelt farewells, marking the end of this much-loved sci-fi horror series.

‘Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale’ (2024)

Starting December 25th on AMC+, this thrilling drama delves deeper into the world of modern witchcraft. The series is set in a present-day town called Sanctuary, where witches live among us, secretly concealing their abilities. When a murder occurs, lead witch Sarah Fenn must work to prove her daughter’s innocence. The show blends the suspense of a crime investigation with the intrigue of magical traditions, creating a captivating and tense story where ancient magic clashes with modern life.

‘Anaconda’ (2025)

A funny new take on classic monster movies arrives in theaters on December 25th. The film follows a movie crew who travel to the Amazon rainforest to remake an old monster film, only to find themselves hunted by a gigantic snake that doesn’t realize they’re just making a movie. Starring Jack Black and Paul Rudd, and directed by Tom Gormican, this self-aware adventure blends comedy with the intense fear of being chased by a massive predator.

Tell us which of these December horror releases you are most excited to watch in the comments.
