A man who used to work with Will Smith is suing Jada Pinkett Smith for $3 million. He alleges that she threatened him in 2021. PEOPLE magazine first reported on the lawsuit on December 1st.
Bilaal Salaam, a close friend of Will Smith for almost four decades, shared that he’s collaborated with both Will and Jada Smith on various personal and work-related endeavors. He mentioned that Will Smith even featured photos of him in his autobiography, Will.
The lawsuit claims the incident occurred on September 25, 2021, in the lobby of the Regency Calabasas Commons during a private birthday party for Will Smith.
Salaam states that Jada Pinkett Smith was with around seven people when she became verbally aggressive towards him. He claims she threatened him, warning that if he shared her private information, he could be harmed or even killed. According to the complaint, she also pressured him to sign a non-disclosure agreement, implying negative consequences if he refused. Salaam says her group continued to threaten him as they followed him to his car.
In March 2022, six months after the Oscars, Salaam says he turned down a friend’s request to help manage the fallout from the incident where Will Smith slapped Chris Rock. This happened after Rock made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair loss condition, alopecia.
According to the lawsuit, after he declined their request, he started receiving more threats and became the target of a backlash from people connected to the Smiths. Salaam claims this harassment worsened after he published a memoir detailing his experiences and gave a widely shared interview.
In a recent lawsuit, Salaam claims he saw Will Smith and actor Duane Martin in a compromising situation in 2023, as he stated in an interview with ‘Unwine With Tasha K.’ He further alleges that Jada Pinkett Smith then tried to damage his reputation by making false statements in media interviews. According to the lawsuit, instead of going to the police or filing a legal claim, Pinkett Smith ‘intentionally and maliciously engaged in a smear campaign through nationally broadcast interviews.’
Jada Pinkett Smith responded to the rumors on The Breakfast Club, calling them false and absurd. She stated, “It’s just ridiculous and completely untrue.”
Salaam is claiming that statements made by Pinkett Smith to TMZ caused him emotional distress. He says she falsely suggested he was trying to extort money from her and her husband. Salaam asserts that this statement was untrue, irresponsible, and intentionally designed to harm his reputation and sway public opinion. He emphasizes that he never actually filed a lawsuit.
The lawsuit states that Will Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, and others connected to her caused significant harm to Salaam, including financial setbacks, damage to his reputation, emotional and physical health problems, and disruption to his life and work. As a result, Salaam is requesting $3 million in compensation.
