Game of Thrones fans have a new treat! HBO has released an official poster for the upcoming series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, and it’s getting a lot of buzz for its impressive design.

The new series is a prequel to Game of Thrones, created by George R.R. Martin and Ira Parker. It takes place roughly 90 years before the events centered around the Iron Throne.
This story is based on the first book in George R.R. Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg series, The Hedge Knight. Peter Claffey stars as Dunk, a good-natured, towering knight with humble origins – he doesn’t come from a noble family.
The cast includes young Dexter Sol Ansell as Egg, who is secretly Aegon Targaryen, a prince in disguise who covers his bald head with a hat. Finn Bennett plays the haughty Prince Aerion Brightflame, while Bertie Carvel portrays the thoughtful Prince Baelor Breakspear. Tanzyn Crawford appears as a puppeteer named Tanselle, Daniel Ings as the quick-tempered Lyonel Baratheon, and Sam Spruell as the stern Prince Maekar.
The show’s first season, consisting of six episodes, will premiere on HBO and Max on January 18, 2026. Originally planned for late 2025, the release date was shifted slightly. Excitingly, HBO was so impressed with the footage that they renewed the show for a second season in November, which is expected to air in 2027.
