Rumors are still circulating about Predator: Badlands, and now there’s a false claim that it’s made more money than any other Predator or Alien movie.
However, that’s simply not the case.
Predator: Badlands has a global box office as of Sunday of $173,740,607.
A simple check reveals that the 2004 Aliens vs Predator movie has a $177,427,090 gross.
If we convert that number to today’s dollars, that’s $305,073,154.22.
Unlike previous installments, Predator: Badlands is projected to earn around $200 million, resulting in a $60 million loss for the studio.
The original 1987 film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger earned over $280 million in today’s money, with the majority of that – a substantial $170.793 million – coming from ticket sales within the United States. This is double the expected domestic earnings of Badlands, which is currently projected to make around $100 million at most.
There’s a lot of misleading information circulating online about this movie, which is actually quite bad. Despite having a large budget, it’s unlikely to be profitable for Disney, and a sequel hasn’t been planned. It seems the Predator franchise may return to streaming if it continues at all.
To be clear, Predator: Badlands didn’t have a strong third weekend, earning only about $4.8 million in the US and $6 million internationally. Weapons, in its fourth weekend, made $10.4 million, finishing with $151.5 million domestically and $268 million worldwide – roughly the amount needed to break even, something Badlands is far from achieving.
