Stranger Things Isn’t Over: Upside Down Returns in 2026 Animated Series Tales From ’85

The world of Stranger Things isn’t finished yet! After the final season concluded on New Year’s Eve of 2025, Netflix is continuing the story with an animated series called Stranger Things: Tales From ’85. Set in Hawkins during the winter of 1985, this new show will stream in 2026 and fills in the gap between seasons 2 and 3.

Viewers can now get a glimpse of the beloved characters from Hawkins in animated form as they face new creatures and investigate a brand-new supernatural puzzle. Netflix has released initial images, a short preview, and announced the complete voice cast for the show.

As a lifestyle expert, I’m excited to share the incredible voice cast bringing this story to life! We’ve got Brooklyn Davey Norstedt as Eleven, Jolie Hoang-Rappaport as Max, and Luca Diaz as Mike. The boys are rounded out by Elisha ‘EJ’ Williams as Lucas, Braxton Quinney as Dustin, and Ben Plessala as Will. And of course, Brett Gipson is fantastic as Hopper. We also have some amazing additions to the cast with talents like Odessa A’zion, Janeane Garofalo, and Lou Diamond Phillips – it’s truly a stellar lineup!

I’m so excited about this project! Eric Robles is leading the creative side as showrunner and executive producer, which is fantastic. And the Duffer Brothers, the masterminds behind everything, are still heavily involved as executive producers through their company, Upside Down Pictures. Plus, Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen from 21 Laps are also on board, which is a huge boost. The animation is in great hands with Flying Bark Productions – I’ve heard amazing things about their work, and I can’t wait to see what they create!

In a behind-the-scenes video for Netflix, the creators of Stranger Things, the Duffer Brothers, revealed that they initially considered an animated series as a way to expand the show’s story. Matt Duffer explained it was one of their first ideas for continuing the Stranger Things universe, and Ross Duffer added that animation allows for limitless creativity, letting Eric and his team fully explore new possibilities.

Even after the live-action series ends, the story of Hawkins will continue through animation. The new show will capture the spirit of 1980s cartoons, giving fans a fresh and nostalgic way to enjoy the supernatural world they’ve come to know and love.

As a huge Stranger Things fan, I’m so excited to see the story continue as an animated series! It feels like a brilliant move by Netflix, and I think it’ll bring in even more people to love the world we’ve all come to know. Knowing the Duffer Brothers and Shawn Levy are still involved as executive producers gives me so much confidence that the animation will capture everything special about the show – the quality, the heart, and that incredible storytelling we’ve all fallen for.

Fans can revisit the world of Stranger Things in a brand new animated adventure, Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, coming to Netflix in 2026. It promises a unique way to experience the story and the town of Hawkins.
