Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo on social media last night. It showed a bizarre, stone-like heap next to a doorway shaped like a triangle, all in a desert setting. He captioned it with the words “regal.inspiring.thickness”, leading many to believe it’s a hint about a big announcement coming at The Game Awards. However, it’s still unclear what the reveal might be.
People have been trying to figure out what the strange creature in the image is. Some think the large, crocodile-like figure with the human-shaped arm might be a Daedroth. Others have pointed out the armor in the middle looks similar to the Carved Nordic or Elven sets. One user, u/Kami-no-dansei, suggested the figure underneath the crocodile resembles a Dremora, but others disagree, noting its fangs and generally monstrous appearance are more vampiric.
There’s a popular idea that a doorway found in the Hammerfell desert could lead to a shrine dedicated to Molag Bal. People believe the ‘Dremora’ seen there are his vampire creations, and the sad, ghostly figures carved into the stone represent the Soul Shriven. Some even think the Elven armor belongs to Harken, a character from the Dawnguard DLC in Skyrim. While it’s a compelling theory, it’s unlikely to be true. Todd Howard, the game director, has admitted they revealed The Elder Scrolls 6 too early, and recently stated the game is still years away, making it improbable this is a teaser for it.
Many fans speculate that Geoff Keighley is hinting at a new God of War game, potentially set in Egypt. This idea is based mainly on a desert scene shown, although it doesn’t strongly resemble Egypt, and some armor that looks a bit like armor worn by Lunda. However, concrete evidence is limited.
Some people think the bear head and doorway strongly resemble elements from the game Diablo 4, possibly hinting at a future expansion. Above the crocodile, viewers have also spotted what looks like the helmet worn by the character Malenia in Elden Ring.
Think of it like a Rorschach test, but for gamers. If you look closely, you’ll probably see connections to your favorite fantasy worlds. While the caption seems like a clue, figuring it out actually raises even more questions.
Is Geoff Keighley Teasing Something Fallout?
A Reddit user, u/Onsiterecordings, used the ‘What3Words’ app – which converts locations into three-word addresses – to pinpoint the location teased in Keighley’s post. The result placed it in a specific grid within the Mojave Desert, which better matches the landscape in the accompanying photo than locations in Egypt or Hammerfell. Another user, u/fjbdhdhrdy47972, noted the trees in the photo are characteristic of that region, specifically identifying them as Joshua trees.
The most likely explanation is that this is a hint about the upcoming season of the Prime Video Fallout show, possibly Season 2. The mention of the Mojave Desert and New Vegas fits with the three words used in the caption and the imagery shown. However, those same words also suggest a fantasy setting, and the doorway scene is filled with creatures from fantasy—demons, ghosts, and monsters. This leaves us with a confusing mix of possibilities.
This seems more like a way to build excitement for The Game Awards than an actual announcement. Geoff Keighley often shares mysterious hints to get people talking, like the recent Steam screenshot showing only one game on his wishlist. This new tease is similarly vague and could refer to many things – perhaps games like Fallout, Diablo 4, or The Elder Scrolls. It’s even possible we’ll see a completely new online multiplayer game announced!
We won’t have to wait long to find out, as The Game Awards begins on December 11th. But it’s best not to expect announcements for games like The Elder Scrolls 6 or God of War – it’s unlikely to be either of those.
