Warner Bros. shared more information about the Supergirl experience planned for CCXP on December 6th, and it suggests the new DC Universe, led by James Gunn, will continue the lighthearted and comedic style established in Superman, Peacemaker, and Creature Commandos.
The CCXP booth isn’t subtle about it either.

An “Intergalactic Bar” for Supergirl
The official details reveal the Supergirl booth will be designed like an intergalactic bar, showing Kara socializing, having drinks, and enjoying herself – mirroring the ending of the Superman movie, where Milly Alcock’s Supergirl appears a bit tipsy.
It looks like the new DC Universe won’t be offering a Supergirl story focused on darker or more traditionally heroic themes, disappointing some fans who were hoping for that approach.
This movie seems to be directly inspired by the comic Woman of Tomorrow, which received criticism for depicting Supergirl as cynical and struggling with alcohol. James Gunn has chosen this storyline for his film, and recent announcements confirm they’re maintaining that characterization.

Krypto Challenge, Alien Popcorn Machine & Claw Prizes
The booth will feature:
- A Krypto interaction and “Krypto Challenge”
- An alien-themed popcorn machine
- Speed and strength games
- A claw machine with prizes
- Dance music and bar-style energy
Think of it as a fun, theme-park-style area within the DC Universe, keeping with the playful, comedic tone James Gunn is establishing. Rather than showcasing Supergirl as a strong, serious hero, they’re presenting her world as a lively place for entertainment and games.

Fits the DCU Tone So Far
Everything shown so far from Gunn’s DCU leans into goofiness:
- Superman mixing heroes with sitcom-style comedy
- Peacemaker embracing crude humor
- Creature Commandos aimed at being bizarre and over-the-top
Okay, so now Supergirl is heading in the same direction as everything else, and honestly, it’s a little disappointing. After Zack Snyder left, a lot of us were hoping for a more down-to-earth, realistic feel in these movies, but it feels like we’re drifting further and further away from that now.
It’s fascinating to me how consistent James Gunn’s vision is! Even with a character like Jor-El, we’re seeing echoes of what Geoff Johns did in the comics – a portrayal of instability and, frankly, a bit of madness. It really feels like Gunn is building on established characterizations, and it’s exciting to see.
Nothing about this CCXP booth suggests the movie will correct course.

Fans Expected This — CCXP Just Confirms It
Comic-Con Experience (CCXP) is typically when Warner Bros. aims to generate excitement by showcasing upcoming projects. However, this year’s booth seems to be reinforcing criticism that James Gunn is making DC characters overly eccentric and unnatural.
Rather than making Supergirl a central, dramatic character in the DC Universe, Warner Bros. seems to be focusing on lighter, more playful elements like comedy, simple entertainment, and small, interactive games.
If viewers were hoping Supergirl would offer a more serious tone compared to James Gunn’s DC Universe plans, the recent CCXP presentation suggests that won’t be the case. The movie appears to be just as lighthearted and fun as everything else announced for the DCU so far.
The most encouraging news we’ve received is that Jason Momoa’s role as Lobo has been expanded.
