This article is a humorous take on Stranger Things 5, Volume 1, and it actually startled me with a sound similar to my alarm! However, it does contain some spoilers. If you’d prefer to avoid those, you can read our spoiler-free review of Stranger Things 5, Volume 1 instead.

It’s almost 3 am, and I’m finishing up Volume 1 of Stranger Things season 5. Things were going great – no major characters have died yet! I was even getting into the spirit, wearing a Hellfire Club t-shirt and eating Stranger Thingsbranded Doritos. Then, BAM! My alarm clock went off right during a crucial scene with Hopper and Eleven. I was expecting a scare from the show itself, but having my alarm sound used for so long was surprisingly awful. It’s actually making me more anxious than anything else that happened in the episodes, even Vecna’s appearance or the arguments between Steve and Dustin. Stranger Things*, please, never use that alarm sound again! I want to be able to enjoy rewatching these scenes without jumping out of my skin.
Can anyone else who uses the default iPhone alarm sound relate? If you’re jolted awake each morning by that classic “Alarm” tone, you probably understand what I mean. It’s startling, but effective. Interestingly, Dr. Kay in Stranger Things 5 seems to agree! She uses the same sound as the alarm for her base in the terrifying Upside Down, as seen in Volume 1, episode four, “Sorcerer.”

If you’re scrambling to figure out when that familiar alarm clock sound appears in Stranger Things 5, Volume 1, episode 4, don’t worry! Here are the exact timestamps to help you find it.
This annoying sound, which I believe was intentionally added by the show’s creator, starts around 48 minutes into the fourth episode of Stranger Things 5 and lasts for about 18 seconds. It reappears at 53 minutes, continuing for almost five minutes. Then it comes back again at 57 minutes, popping up throughout the scene with Eleven, Dr. Kay, and Hopper. The sound really returns strongly around the one-hour mark. Just when I thought it was over, it happens one last time at 1:09. Even with less than 20 minutes left in the episode, it’s still going, but thankfully it fades away after a few seconds.
Just a heads-up: starting around 48 minutes into episode four of Stranger Things 5, every time Hopper and Eleven appear on screen, you’ll hear an alarm clock sound. Be ready for it!

Thankfully, that intense season of Stranger Things is over – it was even more frightening than battling Vecna and the Demodogs, or even being stuck with only Stonathan as a couple! I have no idea what I did to the show’s creators to deserve such a scare, maybe I wished Eddie Munson would come back to life one too many times. But I’m officially warning Stranger Things season 5: please don’t scare me so badly that my alarm clock sound triggers a panic attack again! Seriously, never again!
Stranger Things 5, Volume 1 is now streaming on Netflix.
Rotem Rusak leads the editorial team at TopMob. She just finished binge-watching Stranger Things—all of it, in just 72 hours—and is still heartbroken about Eddie Munson. She’s warning everyone now: if Steve Harrington doesn’t make it in the final season, she’ll be devastated.
