James Van Der Beek Wears Varsity Blues Jersey in Heartfelt Video for Cancer Auction

James Van Der Beek recently posted a touching video wearing his famous football jersey from the movie Varsity Blues. He’s using it to raise money for his own cancer treatment and to help other families dealing with cancer as well.

The actor, famous for his work in Varsity Blues and Dawson’s Creek, shared information about the initiative on Instagram.

Van Der Beek shared a nostalgic memory of his 1999 sports film, explaining that fans requested he talk about his favorite jersey. He fondly remembered wearing the team’s white uniform, perhaps because of the exciting plays they made during away games.

He also mentioned the incredible reaction to last year’s jersey, saying it meant the world to him. He hopes fans will love this year’s jersey just as much, and shared that signing each one feels like a special, meaningful experience.

Jerseys are available for purchase – unsigned ones cost $40, and signed ones are $80. All the money raised will go towards covering actor Van Der Beek’s medical bills for colorectal cancer, as well as supporting other families facing similar health battles. Van Der Beek, age 48, shared his stage 3 cancer diagnosis publicly last year.

He recently raised even more money by auctioning off items from his time on Dawson’s Creek. The cast of Dawson’s Creek also got back together in September – it was their first reunion since the show ended in 2003. Van Der Beek was unfortunately sick with a stomach virus and couldn’t make it, but Lin-Manuel Miranda filled in. The event helped raise money for Van Der Beek’s medical care and the F Cancer charity.

Van Der Beek expressed his gratitude on Instagram, thanking fans for their love, prayers, and support. He said their encouragement made his jersey represent something much more meaningful than just a film, and he’s deeply thankful for everything.
