‘The Carman Family Deaths’ Is on Top of Netflix’s Most-Watched Movies of the Week List

As a total movie buff, I’ve been checking out what everyone was watching on Netflix last week, from November 17th to the 23rd. It’s a really interesting mix! They just dropped the numbers, and it looks like people were all over the place – true crime docs, cozy holiday rom-coms, and some big animated movies. Plus, a lot of us were revisiting old favorites and action thrillers that popped back up on the platform. Here’s a rundown of what grabbed America’s attention the most during that week.

‘Blue Beetle’ (2023)

In the film, Xolo Maridueña plays Jaime Reyes, a college grad who unexpectedly finds a powerful, ancient alien artifact called the Scarab. The Scarab attaches to Jaime, giving him a suit of armor with incredible and unpredictable abilities. He has to learn to master these powers and defend his family from a company that wants to use the technology as a weapon. Directed by Ángel Manuel Soto, this is the first DC movie to star a Latino superhero.

‘Frankenstein’ (2025)

Guillermo del Toro’s film is a fresh take on Mary Shelley’s classic story of Frankenstein. Oscar Isaac plays the ambitious scientist, Victor Frankenstein, and Jacob Elordi brings the Creature to life. The movie delves into the ideas of creation, rejection, and the darkness within humanity. Featuring Mia Goth and Christoph Waltz alongside Isaac and Elordi, it’s a visually stunning and emotionally powerful reimagining of the iconic tale.

‘A Merry Little Ex-Mas’ (2025)

Alicia Silverstone and Oliver Hudson play a divorced couple trying to create one last magical Christmas for their kids. Their plans for a calm holiday are thrown into disarray when Oliver’s character brings home his new, much younger girlfriend, played by Jameela Jamil. Directed by Steve Carr, the movie follows the funny and chaotic situations that arise as the family deals with awkwardness and unresolved emotions. It’s a story about the difficulties of co-parenting and starting over during Christmastime.

‘The Sandlot’ (1993)

This beloved coming-of-age story takes place in the summer of 1962. It centers on Scotty Smalls, a new boy in town, who quickly makes friends with a neighborhood baseball team. They spend their days playing ball on a local sandlot, dealing with the ups and downs of growing up and learning about friendship. The main adventure revolves around their daring mission to recover a valuable baseball, signed by Babe Ruth, from the yard of a scary dog known only as ‘The Beast.’ Directed by David Mickey Evans, the film is a fondly remembered look back at childhood, baseball, and American life.

‘Selena y Los Dinos: A Family’s Legacy’ (2025)

This documentary, made with the support of the Quintanilla family, provides a personal and revealing portrait of Tejano music icon Selena. Director Isabel Castro uses family home videos and previously unseen footage to tell Selena’s story, focusing on her close relationship with her band, Los Dinos, and their journey to fame. The film celebrates Selena’s life and lasting impact, as seen through the eyes of her loved ones, and intentionally avoids dwelling on the details of her tragic passing.

‘KPop Demon Hunters’ (2025)

Okay, so I just heard about this animated movie and it sounds amazing. It’s about Huntrix, a super popular K-pop girl group, but here’s the twist: they’re also secretly demon hunters! They protect their fans from all sorts of supernatural baddies when they’re not performing. And get this – their rivals, another boy band, are actually demons pretending to be pop stars. Apparently, Sony Pictures Animation is behind it, and they’ve created a really cool visual style inspired by the music world, plus an original soundtrack. I’m definitely checking this one out!

‘The Marksman’ (2021)

Liam Neeson plays Jim Hanson, a tough, ex-Marine rancher living near the Arizona border. When a young boy escapes a dangerous drug cartel killer, Hanson finds himself unexpectedly protecting him. The film follows their perilous journey across the country, with Hanson using his military training to fight off those chasing them. Directed by Robert Lorenz, this action-packed thriller explores themes of finding purpose and the surprising connections people can make, even amidst violence.

‘Champagne Problems’ (2025)

In this heartwarming holiday romance, Minka Kelly plays Sydney Price, a businesswoman sent to France to buy a famous champagne vineyard. Things get complicated when she falls for Henri Cassell (Tom Wozniczka), the owner’s son. Set against the beautiful backdrop of the Champagne region, the movie follows Sydney as she tries to balance her career goals with a blossoming romance. It’s directed by Mark Steven Johnson and combines the excitement of the workplace with the magic of the holidays.

‘In Your Dreams’ (2025)

Alex Woo directs this animated film, which follows brother and sister Stevie and Elliot as they embark on a magical adventure into the world of dreams. Featuring the voices of Simu Liu and Cristin Milioti, the movie brings the strange and wonderful world of the subconscious to life. The siblings must journey through their own imaginations to find the Sandman and make a wish to help their family. It’s a funny and fantastical story about facing fears and meeting quirky characters on their quest for a happy family life.

The Carman Family Deaths’ (2025)

This documentary unravels the complicated story of Nathan Carman, focusing on the mysterious events surrounding his family. Directed by Yon Motskin, the film looks into the 2016 fishing trip where Carman’s mother disappeared and was believed to have died, as well as the still-unsolved 2013 murder of his grandfather, John Chakalos. Using interviews and old footage, the film explores the claims of financial motives and mental health issues that haunted Carman until his death while incarcerated.

Tell us which of these movies you are planning to stream this weekend in the comments.
