Eva Green is reuniting with director Tim Burton for this new take on the Addams Family universe. According to show creators Al Gough and Miles Millar, who spoke with Tudum, Green consistently delivers a captivating and unique performance – she’s graceful, mysterious, and delightfully surprising, making her an ideal fit for the role of Aunt Ophelia.
Green expressed her enthusiasm about becoming Aunt Ophelia in “Wednesday,” describing the show as delightfully dark and funny. She’s excited to add her own unique and quirky energy to the Addams family.
A major addition to Wednesday Season 3
Throughout the second season, we heard about Aunt Ophelia, but she remained a mystery. She only appeared briefly in the finale, seen from behind wearing a flower crown and writing a threatening message about Wednesday. The show explains that Ophelia disappeared after her powers as a Raven became uncontrollable. This mirrors Wednesday’s own challenges with her psychic abilities, which manifested as black tears during the season.
The season finale revealed Morticia giving Wednesday a journal that once belonged to Ophelia, which caused Wednesday to see a vision of Ophelia trapped in a room within Grandmama Hester’s house. According to Millar, Ophelia’s disappearance has deeply affected Morticia and created many mysteries. He also hinted that her return will have a huge impact on the family. Gough added that they intentionally planned to reveal Ophelia in a shocking way that would set up the story for Season 3.
Now that Eva Green has joined the cast, the third season of Wednesday will likely focus on solving the mystery of Ophelia’s disappearance and how it affects the Addams family. This new storyline will explore family relationships, the characters’ abilities, and what the future holds for Wednesday herself.
