Director Michael Bay has hinted he’s in Africa looking at potential filming locations for a new project, and it appears he’s planning to make another Transformers movie for Paramount.
Bay shared a video suggesting he’s looking at filming locations overseas, leading fans to believe it might be for the upcoming Transformers reboot. Deadline recently reported that Skydance and Paramount are currently considering three potential projects, and many think this is one of them.
Michael Bay hasn’t directed a Transformers film since 2017’s The Last Knight, but he’s continued to be involved as a producer. There were earlier reports that he spoke with Paramount about returning to direct—and also potentially have a more active producing role—in a new Transformers movie.
Paramount recently canceled the animated series Transformers: Earth Spark, possibly to coordinate with the release of new live-action Transformers films.

Masculine Blockbuster Era Returns?
Donald Bay’s possible return aligns with recent news that Paramount is refocusing on action franchises geared towards male audiences, following a change in leadership with Skydance. This shift is already happening, with several major projects in the works.
A new Rush Hour sequel is officially in the works, with Brett Ratner returning to direct.
Ratner also provided financial support to Zack Snyder’s DC Extended Universe films through his company, RatPac Entertainment, helping to fund both Batman v Superman and Justice League.
Rumors have reappeared this week suggesting the planned revival of the Rush Hour movie series was delayed because Donald Trump liked the idea and asked for it to be considered.
This adds another layer of meaning to the possibility of Michael Bay returning to the Transformers franchise, because he actually went to film school with Zack Snyder, who is reportedly reviving his vision for the DC Universe.

A New Era of Blockbuster Action?
If things go as planned, Paramount could be revitalizing big-budget, action-packed franchises, potentially bringing back directors like Michael Bay, Brett Ratner, and Zack Snyder.
With Skydance also looking to build up its own valuable content, the stage is set for a big change in how Hollywood operates after the initial push for streaming services.
