Eva Green will be a new member of the Addams family in season three of Wednesday.
Viewers briefly saw Morticia Addams’ sister, Ophelia, at the end of Season 2, only from behind. Now, Variety reports that actress Jamie Lee Curtis will play Ophelia in a recurring role. Curtis is known for her work in films like Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children and Dark Shadows.
Ophelia is a complex character with powerful psychic abilities, much like her niece, Wednesday. Last season, her mother, Hester Frump (played by Joanna Lumley), had her committed to Willow Hill Psychiatric Hospital. She managed to escape, and at the end of Season 2, Wednesday had a vision of Ophelia after seeing something in her aunt Morticia’s journal.
The image depicted a woman with long blonde hair and a flower crown, dressed in red, who had written the phrase “Wednesday must die” using her own blood.
Ophelia has always been known for her long blond hair, which really stands out compared to Morticia’s dark and gothic look. Interestingly, Carolyn Jones played both sisters in the original 1960s Addams Family TV show, and she used a blonde wig whenever she played Ophelia.
This new casting marks the first significant addition to Season 3, which Netflix approved earlier this summer, before Season 2 even launched. It also puts an end to fan theories about the character Ophelia, including speculation that Rosalyn Rottwood, played by Lady Gaga in Season 2, might actually be her.
Wednesday, starring Jenna Ortega, continues the story of Wednesday Addams as she investigates supernatural mysteries while attending Nevermore Academy. The show also features Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia, Luis Guzmán as Gomez, and Fred Armisen as Uncle Fester, alongside a supporting cast including Emma Myers and Hunter Doohan.
Season 3 is set to deliver even more family drama, mystery, and darkly funny moments with the exciting addition of Eva Green to the cast. Viewers will finally meet Ophelia Frump and discover her story within the eerie Addams family universe.
