Benedict Cumberbatch has been discussing his plans for Doctor Strange, and his latest statements are giving fans a lot to be optimistic about.
I don’t want to give too much away, but I definitely have a vision for where my character goes next in the MCU. I’m excited about the future and have a pretty solid idea of what’s in store.
He strongly hinted that Doctor Strange will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, saying he has a good idea of what the future holds for his character. This is the first clear indication in some time that the story isn’t finished with Doctor Strange.
The big question isn’t if Doctor Strange will be back, but when. While Benedict Cumberbatch recently voiced the character in the Disney+ animated series What If…?, most fans expect his next significant appearance will be in a Marvel movie.
As a huge Marvel fan, I’m already getting excited about what’s coming! They’ve got Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday planned for 2026, and then Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027. I’ve heard Benedict Cumberbatch might not be in Doomsday, but everyone’s saying he’ll have a really important role in Secret Wars. That totally makes sense to me, considering Secret Wars is supposed to wrap up this whole Multiverse Saga and bring so many characters together for one big finale!
Because of the existence of the multiverse, it’s hard to say when or where Doctor Strange might reappear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He could show up at almost any point in the timeline, but it’s safe to assume he will return eventually.
Cumberbatch also discussed the plans for future Doctor Strange movies. He mentioned in January that he anticipates appearing in a third film. He praised Marvel Studios for involving him in creative decisions, like choosing the writers, director, and the source material from the comics they’ll use.
