Jasper’s Vampire Maker May Come From Anne Rice Lore, Tease TALAMASCA Creators

Jasper, a new vampire in the Talamasca: The Secret Order series, was a standout character, brilliantly portrayed by William Fichtner. He was a compelling mix of frightening and sympathetic, both calculating and charismatic – we were completely captivated! The first season revealed a lot about Jasper’s past and how he became a vampire, a truly tragic story. However, the series didn’t reveal who actually turned him. We at TopMob were eager to find out, so we asked the creators of Talamasca and Fichtner himself. It seems Jasper’s maker might be a familiar character from Anne Rice’s existing vampire universe, but we’ll have to wait for future seasons of Talamasca to get the full story.

I’m really excited about how the show is developing, and I recently heard from John Lee Hancock, the showrunner, about who turned Jasper into a vampire. He said they’ve been discussing it a lot – the when and where – and they have a strong idea. They’re definitely paying attention to the wider Anne Rice universe and its history, but they’re not necessarily locking themselves into anything specific. It sounds like they’re building something really thoughtful, and the idea they have for Jasper’s maker is still on the table, which is great!

The identity of who turned Jasper into a vampire is a surprisingly important question, and the show’s creators have spent a lot of time considering it. John Lee Hancock has mentioned being careful to stay true to Anne Rice’s existing characters while exploring this mystery, especially within the Talamasca writers’ room. This strongly suggests that Jasper’s maker is a vampire we’ve already met in Anne Rice’s stories – a very interesting development indeed.

Mark Lafferty, an executive producer, shared some insights about Jasper’s origins. He mentioned that details revealed in Talamasca 1.04 suggest Jasper traveled a long distance on foot, starting in South America, continuing through Central America, and ending in Texas. This leads to the possibility that he was turned into a vampire while in Texas. Lafferty noted that the idea of Jasper being a true Texan came from John, and he’s excited about the potential to explore this backstory in future episodes.

We’re curious about that too. Anne Rice didn’t feature any vampires specifically from Texas in her novels, so that lead isn’t helping us figure out who created Jasper. However, we know vampires travel frequently.

William Fichtner, who plays Jasper, said that the show’s first season, Talamasca, didn’t focus on who created Jasper. However, he believes exploring that backstory would be compelling if the show gets a second season. Fichtner explained that in episode four, Jasper reveals he came from a group where some members were vampires and others weren’t. He added that first seasons often concentrate on the current story, leaving backstory for later. He hopes they get a second season so they can delve into who Jasper’s maker was.
