The first season of Talamasca: The Secret Order, the newest installment in the Immortal Universe, has finished airing. The show featured plenty of surprises and introduced a lot of interesting new characters to Anne Rice’s world. However, the connection between Guy Anatole (played by Nicholas Denton) and the vampire Jasper (played by William Fichtner) really resonated with viewers. The actors had fantastic chemistry, and the story allowed both characters to be unusually open and vulnerable, making their relationship a highlight of the season. At TopMob, we’re always excited by compelling on-screen romances, especially ones with catchy couple names (we’ll miss “Guysper”!). So, during our interviews with the cast and creators about the season one finale of Talamasca, we naturally asked about Guy and Jasper’s relationship. Here’s what William Fichtner, who played Jasper, and the series’ creators had to say about them.
William Fichtner explained Jasper’s quick trust in Guy by discussing their dynamic in Talamasca. He said Jasper was at the Motherhouse because he had issues with the Talamasca and how they’d impacted his life. But when Jasper first met Guy, he was simply amused by him – someone walking in and immediately wanting to talk to him struck Jasper as incredibly bold.
According to Fichtner, Jasper is immediately drawn to Guy and his confident personality. They also share a similar intensity, which makes them connect easily. Fichtner notes that when Jasper finally meets Guy in person at the end of episode three, he discovers something significant: he doesn’t truly know Guy, despite having tried to learn about him. Jasper questions Guy’s motives and awareness of the situation. However, when Guy opens up about his struggles and frustrations with the Talamasca, Jasper realizes they have a lot in common. Jasper is impressed by Guy’s passion and recognizes a kindred spirit, ultimately sharing his own grievances with Guy in episode four.

In short, Fichtner concludes about Guy and Jasper, “These guys have something in common.”
Things aren’t simple between Jasper and Guy. Jasper has his own motivations and is considering what he can gain from the relationship. According to Fichtner, Jasper sees a potential benefit in helping Guy, and that’s why he’s drawn to him – he believes Guy can help him achieve his own goals. Ultimately, it’s a relationship built on mutual benefit and figuring out who can help the other get what they want.
It’s not just a professional relationship for Jasper and Guy. According to actor Fichtner, Jasper genuinely enjoys Guy’s company and finds his behavior amusing. Fichtner believes Jasper is entertained by Guy’s boldness and willingness to act as he does, even in risky situations. As an actor, Fichtner always felt Jasper appreciated Guy’s nerve and authenticity in those moments.

As a fan, I’m really hoping to see a romantic connection develop between Guy and Jasper on Talamasca – and it seems like a lot of other fans feel the same way! The actor who plays Guy, Fichtner, has said that, at least in the first season, he doesn’t see their relationship as romantic. But he also understands why people are shipping them, especially those who loved the complex relationships in Interview with the Vampire. He admits he was surprised to hear fans referring to ‘Gasper,’ the pairing name, and says it’s up to the writers where they take the story. Honestly, that’s part of what’s so great about watching TV, isn’t it? We all get to interpret things differently and root for what we want to see happen!
I was really curious about whether Guy and Jasper might become a couple if the show gets renewed for a second season, so I listened closely when the showrunner, John Lee Hancock, was asked about it. He didn’t give us a straight answer, though! He just smiled and said we’ll have to wait and see if the show gets picked up for more seasons before anything can happen. It’s definitely leaving us all wondering!
It seems like a potential romance between Jasper and Guy, now combined as “Gasper,” could lead to more seasons of the show. For now, we’ll have to see how their relationship develops. You can rewatch their story by streaming season one of Talamasca on AMC+.
