Invincible Actor Bails On Series: ‘Too grueling on my psyche’

Aaron Paul has stated he won’t be reprising his role as Powerplex in Invincible. He explained that the character’s difficult emotional journey led to his decision, even though he really enjoys working on the show.

Paul provided the voice for Powerplex in two episodes and found the work surprisingly demanding.

Paul Says the Role Took a Toll

Paul recently told the Kinda Funny Games YouTube channel that playing the character, with all its intensity and difficult past, actually had a personal impact on him.

Paul explained that after appearing in a few episodes, he was invited back for the next season, but he declined. He’s a huge fan of the show and watches it regularly, but found the experience emotionally draining. He expressed deep respect for the work everyone involved is doing.

He added that fully inhabiting Powerplex was the issue.

Paul described Powerplex as someone struggling with internal issues, saying, “He’s going through a lot of turmoil.” Paul admitted to feeling uncomfortable trying to understand Powerplex’s perspective, explaining, “I really put myself in his shoes, and it just didn’t feel right.” Ultimately, he decided he couldn’t continue working with the project because of the negative impact it had on him, despite acknowledging the talent of everyone involved.

What This Means for Powerplex

Now that Paul is leaving the show, they’ll probably either find a new actor to play his part or reduce how much his character appears in future episodes.

Powerplex, whose real name is Scott Duvall, is a villain in the Invincible comic series and animated show. He’s a mentally unstable scientist fixated on getting revenge against Invincible. He believes Invincible is responsible for the deaths of his sister and niece, and also blames him for the deaths of his wife and son, though those were ultimately self-inflicted.

The team working on Invincible hasn’t said who will replace the previous actor or how the character will be portrayed in future episodes.

Season 4 Update

Amazon has announced that Season 4 of Invincible will arrive in March 2026, continuing the story of Mark Grayson and the ongoing conflict with the Viltrumites.

Steven Yeun, J.K. Simmons, Sandra Oh, Gillian Jacobs, and other familiar faces are back for another season, and Lee Pace joins the cast as the character Thragg.
