‘Wicked: For Good’ Shatters Notable 2025 Box Office Record, Overtakes James Gunn’s Superman

The new movie, “Wicked: For Good,” is a hit with audiences and is already earning a lot of money at the box office. It made an impressive $30.8 million during preview showings, making it the biggest pre-opening weekend of the year so far.

The total includes money earned from early screenings for fans and regular Thursday previews. Fan events sponsored by Amazon Prime on Monday generated $6.1 million, and showings on Wednesday brought in another $6.5 million.

Early screenings on Thursday, featuring double showings of “Wicked” and “For Good”, brought in $18.2 million. Before this, Warner Bros.’ “Superman” had the highest single-day preview earnings of the year at $22.5 million.

The new movie, a continuation of the story begun in the Wizard of Oz prequel, is predicted to be a big hit when it opens. Experts believe it could earn between $150 and $180 million in its first weekend, which would make it the year’s biggest opening so far.

Universal is predicting “Wicked” will open with around $125 million, but excitement among fans is very strong. The popularity of Ariana Grande as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba – characters who became well-known in the original “Wicked” – is a major reason for the high anticipation.
