‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ Will Connect Directly to ‘Ahsoka’ Season 2, Confirms Jon Favreau – Here’s Why

Jon Favreau has revealed that the new Star Wars movie featuring The Mandalorian and Grogu will tie into the story told in the second season of the Ahsoka series.

The director recently told Empire Magazine where Din Djarin (the Mandalorian) and Grogu are going in the next chapter of their story.

Jon Favreau shared that Din Djarin, the Mandalorian, is shifting his focus. He explained that at the end of Season 3, the character expresses a desire to stop working as a mercenary and instead dedicate himself to helping those who are fighting for what’s right.

This new direction for the story introduces Djarin to missions involving characters like Colonel Ward, played by Sigourney Weaver, and brings back a beloved character, Zeb Orrelios, from the Star Wars Rebels series. Jon Favreau describes the Mandalorian as a captivating figure, adding that even those unfamiliar with Rebels will appreciate his personality, confidence, and abilities.

The movie and the show will be linked by the character Zeb Orrelios. According to one source, “Zeb allows us to connect what’s happening with Ahsoka,” effectively bridging the stories.

The movie will mainly center around the bond between Djarin and Grogu. As Jon Favreau explained, their journey and the adventures they share together form the heart of the story. The film will also show how both characters grow and change as they learn from one another.

Following the defeat of the Galactic Empire, The Mandalorian and Grogu centers on the adventures of the pair as they work with the New Republic to battle leftover Imperial leaders. The movie is set to premiere in the U.S. on May 22, 2026, and will also be available in IMAX.

The second season of Ahsoka will follow Ahsoka Tano and her trainee, Sabine Wren, as they try to find their way back home after being lost in another galaxy. At the same time, the powerful Grand Admiral Thrawn and what’s left of the Empire are posing a threat to the New Republic. The series is made by Lucasfilm and Golem Creations, with Dave Filoni leading the creative team. It’s expected to build on the story established in the recent film and further connect the different parts of the Star Wars universe.
