- Relatively low skill damage, and very low damage against small enemy groups
Olivier for PVE
Olivier in Player versus Environment (PvE) really shines when you use all of her costumes together. They work best as a complete set to maximize her effectiveness.
- Firstly, Apostle Olivier provides a 80% M.ATK boost for 10 turns. It can be used pre-emptively at the start of the battle.
- Secondly, Faithful Wings Olivier charges up your SP bar, whilst dealing “good but not great” damage.
- Thirdly, Fallen Wings Olivier then drains your entire SP bar to deal massive AOE damage, based on the amount of SP used (up to 2,150% from a full SP bar).
- After draining your SP bar, you then use Faithful Wings to recharge SP again.
The strategy involves switching between Faithful Wings and Fallen Wings during the Apostle’s buff. Use Faithful Wings to prepare, then switch to Fallen Wings for a powerful attack.
Faithful Wings skill damage
Okay, so I’ve been testing Faithful Wings, and honestly, it’s not super powerful on its own. I compared it to Sacred Justia, and the difference is pretty huge. Basically, Sacred Justia does way more damage. For example, if you hit seven enemies with Olivier (which is like a perfect setup for it), it does 600% damage. But Sacred Justia? It crushes that with 1000% damage! It’s a clear win for Sacred Justia in terms of raw power.
| Targets | Sacred Justia | Faithful Wings Olivier |
| 1 | 400% | 300% |
| 2 | 500% | 350% |
| 3 | 600% | 400% |
| 4 | 700% | 450% |
| 5 | 800% | 500% |
| 6 | 900% | 550% |
| 7 | 1000% | 600% |
| 8 | 1100% | – |
| 9 | 1200% | – |
| 10 | 1300% | – |
Even though Faithful Wings provides an 80% Magic Attack (M.ATK) buff, Sacred Justia generally performs better in most Player versus Environment (PvE) situations. This is because of how buffs of the same type combine mathematically. For instance:
- Typically for magic PVE teams you will bring B-Rank Idol Helena (+115% M.ATK).
- B.Helena buff alone gives you 1.0 + 1.15 = 2.15x damage.
- B.Helena + Apostle Olivier gives you 1.0 +1.15 + 0.8 = 2.95x damage.
- Adding the Apostle Olivier buff in this scenario therefore only improved your damage by 37% (2.95x/2.15x).
If your skill has reached its maximum potential (+5), dealing 300-600% damage is quite low. But remember, Faithful Wings isn’t intended as your primary attack skill. Its purpose is to prepare for a powerful attack with Fallen Wings while that skill is recharging. This is similar to how other costumes, like Acting Archbishop Michaela and Track and Field Loen, work – they have lower damage output but set up strong buffs for the next, more powerful attack.
PVE game modes
Faithful Wings Olivier excels in challenging content like fiend hunts and guild raids, as her three different costumes allow her to effectively use her powerful combo attack. However, she isn’t as effective in other, less demanding PvE modes because her individual skills don’t deal a lot of damage.
Olivier for PVP
Olivier is a strong pick for player-versus-player (PVP) defense teams. His Apostle costume is rare because it has a preemptive skill, and he’s the only costumed hero with preemptive evasion. The Faithful Wings costume gives Olivier a small but helpful boost in PVP.
Prior to Faithful Wings becoming available, Olivier could only use Fallen Wings for her defense turn, and she didn’t have any skills for a second defensive turn.
Faithful Wings Olivier helps fill a gap in your defense strategy, making her a useful addition to Player vs Player (PVP) battles and boosting Olivier’s overall strength. She has a strong area-of-effect skill and is inexpensive to use at only 2 skill points (SP). However, her damage output is still relatively low. In PVP, you’ll likely only hit 2 or 3 enemies with her skill, dealing around 350-400% damage. In comparison, Fallen Wings deals 350% damage for 2 SP and 450% damage for 3 SP, and her damage increases as you spend more SP. While neither hero is exceptionally powerful, Fallen Wings is likely to remain the more popular choice for the first turn of defense.
Olivier’s exclusive gear
Olivier’s special weapon boosts his magical attack power, which is great for a damage dealer like him. However, like other unique items, it’s more of a bonus than a necessity. You don’t need to go out of your way to get it unless you’re striving for the highest scores in challenging events like fiend hunts and guild raids.
Conclusion
Faithful Wings Olivier isn’t very strong by itself, but it’s a key piece of Olivier’s complete setup. It works by refilling your energy (SP) after Fallen Wings Olivier uses some, making it a helpful support skill. Olivier is a powerful costume, though best suited for specific activities like challenging fiends and participating in guild raids. If you’re already building Olivier, it’s a good investment; otherwise, it’s best to pass.
Note that limited costumes are likely to be around the corner as we approach the end of year event.
A free copy of Faithful Wings is available in the Ch18 pub.
