‘Missing’ (2023)

Following in the style of the thriller ‘Searching,’ ‘Missing’ is a standalone story about a teenager who uses the internet – social media, apps, and online tools – to look for her mother after she vanishes during a trip to Colombia. The film stars Storm Reid and Nia Long, and is directed by Will Merrick and Nick Johnson, based on a story by Sev Ohanian and Aneesh Chaganty. Told entirely through computer and phone screens, ‘Missing’ will be available to stream on Max from November 17th to 23rd.

‘Eddington’ (2025)

Ari Aster’s new thriller, set in New Mexico in May 2020, follows Sheriff Joe Cross and Mayor Ted Garcia as their conflict escalates during a heated election. Starring Joaquin Phoenix and Pedro Pascal, the film features stunning visuals by Darius Khondji and a compelling score by Bobby Krlic and Daniel Pemberton. It first premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival before being released by A24, and became available to stream on Max on November 14th.

‘One to One: John & Yoko’ (2025)

As a huge music fan, I recently checked out this documentary directed by Kevin Macdonald. It’s all about John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s time in New York back in the early ’70s, focusing a lot on those incredible One to One concerts they did at Madison Square Garden in 1972. What’s really cool is how it’s made – they’ve restored footage from the concerts, mixed in home movies, old audio recordings, and even TV clips. Sean Ono Lennon was involved in making sure it all came together perfectly. It really gives you a sense of their creative connection and what was going on politically at the time. You can find it streaming on Max now, it dropped on November 14th.

‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ (2024)

Set several generations after Caesar’s time, the film centers on Noa, a young chimpanzee, and Mae, a human woman, as they deal with conflicts between different ape groups led by Proximus Caesar. Directed by Wes Ball and starring Owen Teague, Freya Allan, and Kevin Durand, with a score by John Paesano, this movie is a direct sequel to ‘War for the Planet of the Apes’ and a new chapter in the rebooted series. It became available to stream on Max on November 13th.

‘Materialists’ (2025)

Celine Song, the director of ‘Past Lives,’ returns with a new film set in New York City. This romance focuses on a professional matchmaker who finds her work intersecting with her personal life. The movie explores modern relationships with a strong emphasis on realistic conversations and features a talented cast. It became available on Max in early November.

‘A Man Called Otto’ (2022)

Director Marc Forster brings Fredrik Backman’s heartwarming story to the screen, focusing on a man coping with loss whose life is unexpectedly brightened by his new neighbors. Starring Tom Hanks and Mariana Treviño, and with a script by David Magee and score by Thomas Newman, the film reimagines the Swedish novel for an American audience, maintaining its emphasis on the importance of community. It became available to stream on Max in early November.

‘The Lego Ninjago Movie’ (2017)

This animated movie follows Lloyd, the Green Ninja, and his training with Master Wu to defend Ninjago City from the evil Garmadon. Directed by Charlie Bean, Paul Fisher, and Bob Logan, the voice cast features Dave Franco, Justin Theroux, and Jackie Chan. The film combines exciting martial arts with a heartwarming story about family, all within the world of Lego. It started streaming on Max in early November.

I Am Curious Johnny’ (2025)

Julien Temple’s documentary offers a look into the life of Jean “Johnny” Pigozzi, a photographer and entrepreneur, using his own home videos and photos spanning many years. The film features interviews with notable figures like Mick Jagger, Michael Douglas, Diane von Fürstenberg, and Graydon Carter, and explores Pigozzi’s journey as a collector, his work in technology, and his connections within the art world across Europe and the United States. It premiered on Max the week of November 3rd.

‘Past Lives’ (2023)

Celine Song’s first film tells the story of two childhood friends who find each other again in New York City after many years. The movie explores themes of destiny, who we are, and the choices we make. Starring Greta Lee, Teo Yoo, and John Magaro, it gained recognition during awards season for its thoughtful and sweeping narrative. Released by A24, it’s a great companion piece to Song’s other film available on the streaming service and was recently added to Max’s lineup in early November.

‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ (2014)

Matt Reeves’ film explores the crumbling relationship between the apes led by Caesar and the remaining humans, paving the way for the next movie in the series. Andy Serkis once again brings the apes to life through motion capture, and he’s joined by Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, and Keri Russell. The film features both impressive action sequences and a compelling story that builds on what’s come before. It’s available on Max this November, along with the latest film in the franchise.
