Squid Game: America plans February 2026 shoot, creator Hwang Dong Hyuk and director David Fincher involved

An English-language version of the popular South Korean series Squid Game is officially happening. After rumors about a possible remake and connections to the original show, it’s now confirmed the project will begin filming next year. The remake will be directed by David Fincher and developed with the original series creator, Hwang Dong Hyuk.

Squid Game: America to break a leg next year, here’s all we know

According to the Film & Television Industry Alliance (FTIA), filming for Squid Game: America is scheduled to begin on February 26, 2026. Los Angeles and California are expected to be the primary filming locations. David Fincher will direct the series, with Hwang Dong Hyuk, the creator of the original Squid Game, and Kim Ji Yeon, CEO of Pertsman Studio, serving as producers.

While details are still being finalized, ‘Squid Game: America’ will take place in the same world as the original Korean series. This isn’t a remake of the original story, but a new, parallel storyline that explores how the games would be adapted in American culture. Cate Blanchett, who recently appeared in a cameo at the end of Squid Game season 3, is expected to take over the role previously held by Gong Yoo and will also be part of the American version.

Although the director and creator haven’t officially confirmed it, details on the website suggest a new adaptation is likely happening. Reports indicate it could be released around Christmas 2028, similar to the previous two seasons of Squid Game. Currently, there are no plans for additional seasons of the original Korean series.
