Stephanie Phillips’ Grim Graphic Novel Heads to Netflix From the Creators of Wednesday

Netflix is creating an animated series for adults based on the popular comic book Grim, by Stephanie Phillips and Flaviano. The show is being developed by Al Gough and Miles Millar, who also created Wednesday, one of Netflix’s biggest hits.

Netflix Teams With Gough, Millar, and Jennifer Yuh Nelson

According to Deadline, Gough and Millar will be executive producers on the new series, along with Jennifer Yuh Nelson, the supervising director of Netflix’s Emmy-winning show Love, Death + Robots. Netflix hasn’t officially confirmed the project, but it is currently being developed.

This series is another big adaptation for Boom! Studios, and it’s happening as writer Eve Phillips gets ready to start her new Daredevil comic book series in March 2026.

The Story of Grim

Grim centers around Jessica Harrow, a new Reaper tasked with guiding souls to the afterlife. Haunted by amnesia—she has no memory of her life or death—Jessica embarks on a quest to uncover the truth, which leads her to powerful, hidden forces and a surprising link to Death itself. This comic skillfully combines supernatural mystery with fantastical horror elements and was a major hit for Boom! Studios upon its 2022 release.

With the comic series ending after 25 issues this month, the timing of Netflix’s announcement is perfect for fans.

The Creative Team Behind the Series

Stephen Christy and Adam Yoelin from Boom! Studios are executive producers of the series, alongside Gough, Millar, and Yuh Nelson. Mette Norkjaer is a co-executive producer, and Phillips and artist Flaviano also join as co-executive producers for this adaptation.

Gough and Millar are experienced TV and film professionals, having worked on shows like Smallville, Into the Badlands, and The Shannara Chronicles, as well as films including Spider-Man 2 and the upcoming Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Yuh Nelson brings a wealth of animation expertise, notably as the director of Kung Fu Panda 2 and Kung Fu Panda 3.

Boom! Studios’ Growing Presence in Adaptations

With the recent success of Butterfly on Prime Video, Boom! Studios is continuing to adapt its comics for the screen. Now, Grim is set to join them at Netflix, and with Gough and Millar on board, it’s expected to be a big hit in the supernatural genre.

More updates are expected as Netflix finalizes development.
