Brendan Fraser Confirms The Mummy 4: “The One I Always Wanted to Make”

Brendan Fraser is now talking about The Mummy 4, a movie he’s been hoping to make for twenty years.

Fraser recently told the Associated Press that this latest film is the Mummy movie he’s always envisioned making.

Fraser shared that although he had fun working on the first three Mummy films, none of them quite aligned with what he’d envisioned. He told the Associated Press, “I never actually got to make the movie I wanted to.” He remembered filming the third movie, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, in Shanghai as a great experience, but explained that external factors heavily influenced the final product.

He described the third film as a strong standalone project, noting that NBC’s Olympic broadcast rights led to filming in China – an amazing experience. He and a new team gave it their all, but he’s even more excited about an upcoming movie he’s been developing for twenty years. He’d been getting signals for a long time, and now he feels it’s finally time to deliver what fans have been hoping for.

Following the third movie, a fourth film was planned. Maria Bello had agreed to reprise her role, and Luke Ford was said to be committed to several sequels. However, Universal Pictures ultimately canceled the project in 2012, and eventually decided to restart the series with a fresh beginning.

A fourth Mummy movie is officially happening! According to Variety, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will direct, and David Coggeshall is writing the screenplay. Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are both returning to star, bringing back the beloved original cast.

This new film is a dream come true for Fraser, finally allowing him to share a story he’s been developing for years.
