Lyle & Scott’s New Collection Is an Ode to Terrace Football Culture

Summary:

  • Lyle & Scott and Fly Nowhere have collaborated on a streetwear collection inspired by “terrace culture.”
  • Standout pieces include early-2000s-inspired tracksuits and bold neon sports jerseys.
  • The Lyle & Scott x Fly Nowhere collection is available now and coincides with the opening of the Football Cafe shop’s new exhibition in New York: CLOBBER: 150 Years of Style Inspired by UK Subculture and Football.

Terrace culture is a style that started among British football fans in the early 1970s. Originally, these fans – usually working-class men who stood on the terraces at games – were called “casuals.” Over time, their look developed into a unique blend of sportswear and designer brands, and it continues to inspire streetwear fashion today.

Lyle & Scott, a classic clothing brand, has teamed up with the creative agency Fly Nowhere to launch a new streetwear line. The collection takes inspiration from the style of terrace culture – the fashion associated with football fans.

This collection features clothing and accessories inspired by classic football style. It includes two matching tracksuits – one grey and one light-blue tartan – both with branded stripes on the arms and legs, bringing back early 2000s tracksuit vibes. The sportswear jerseys are also eye-catching, with bold designs. One long-sleeved jersey showcases a countryside scene with a sheep, and a vibrant neon version features a purple-to-green gradient. The collection also includes tartan jerseys using a special print created for Lyle & Scott’s 150th anniversary, plus simple jackets with understated branding and two caps.

Fly Nowhere’s impact is most noticeable in the campaign’s photos and videos. They feature a young, energetic cast wearing the clothes in everyday scenes that capture the spirit of the initial inspiration.

You can now shop the Lyle & Scott x Fly Nowhere collection on the Lyle & Scott website and at Fly Nowhere’s new Football Cafe in New York. The cafe will open with an exhibition called CLOBBER: 150 Years of Style Inspired by UK Subculture and Football.
