While the second season of Landman started strong with a lot of viewers on Paramount+, people’s opinions about the new season are quite mixed.
Although the latest episode had a record number of viewers for Paramount+, it wasn’t well-received by fans and actually caused the show’s ratings to decline.

Record-Breaking Viewership on Paramount+
Paramount+ reported a very successful launch for Season 2 of Landman. The first episode garnered 9.2 million viewers worldwide in its first 48 hours, which is more than triple the viewership of the Season 1 premiere – a 262% increase.
Additional highlights from the platform:
- Most-watched premiere for any original series on Paramount+.
- +320% increase in Season 1 sampling after the new episode dropped.
- #1 streaming premiere on social for 11/16/25 with 255.6K interactions (+489% vs. Season 1).
The announcement also highlighted positive reviews, noting that critics particularly liked Billy Bob Thornton, Demi Moore, and the expanded storyline of Season 2.
But fans? Not so much.

Rotten Tomatoes Scores Plunge
The premiere received a rotten 37% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. For comparison:
- Season 1’s fan score sits at 64%
- The overall audience score for the show dropped to 51% after the Season 2 opener
The show’s ratings dropped significantly, and this matches the negative feedback online. Many viewers on social media and forums described the episode as unnecessary, dull, and the weakest start to any season so far.

IMDB Ratings Also Take a Hit
The premiere didn’t fare much better on IMDB.
Season 2 Episode 1 scored a 7.7, making it the second-lowest rated episode of the entire series.

The episode with the lowest rating is Season 1, Episode 7 (7.5). Like the first episode of Season 2, it mainly featured scenes of Angela and Ainsley at the gym, and Ariana getting Cooper from the hospital.
Viewers don’t seem to be enjoying these shifts in focus to individual characters, and it’s particularly noticeable because the first episode of a season needs to make a strong impression.
In our review, we gave the episode a 2/10.

The Disconnect
So what happened?
Okay, so everyone rushed to watch the Season 2 premiere, which proves the show definitely has a dedicated following. But honestly? It was a bit of a letdown. The episode just didn’t feel like a strong start to the season. The way it moved, the overall mood, and what it chose to focus on… it all felt like a temporary setup rather than a real beginning. I was expecting a bang, and instead, it felt like we were just waiting for things to actually start.
Despite all the positive attention and popularity on streaming platforms, many fans don’t seem to share the enthusiastic opinions being promoted.
