HBO has renewed both of its Game of Thrones spin-offs for another season. House of the Dragon will return for Season 4, and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has been picked up for Season 2.
Casey Bloys, head of content for HBO and HBO Max, announced both updates during a presentation in New York.
House of the Dragon Season 4 Arrives in 2028
House of the Dragon is getting a fourth season ahead of its Season 3 premiere this summer.
The fourth season of the show is currently planned to come out in 2028. While the showrunner, Ryan Condal, has indicated the series will have four seasons in total, HBO hasn’t confirmed when it will end. According to sources at Deadline, Condal is still working on Season 4, and the show’s ultimate conclusion could change after he finishes writing it.
House of the Dragon tells the story of the powerful Targaryen family, showing how their reign eventually led to a devastating civil war called the Dance of the Dragons. The show centers on competing family members, changing loyalties, and the political struggles that ultimately destroyed their dynasty.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Renewed for Season 2
I’m so excited for the new Game of Thrones prequel, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which is coming out on January 18th! And the best news? HBO is already planning a second season – we can expect that one sometime in 2027, which feels like a long way off, but it means they really believe in the show!
Set 100 years before the events of Game of Thrones, the story follows Ser Duncan the Tall and his young apprentice, Egg, as they journey across Westeros. They face various foes, overcome difficult challenges, and navigate the complex politics of the still-dominant Targaryen family. Though dragons are extinct, their legacy remains, and Duncan and Egg’s adventures will lead them into perilous situations, force them to make crucial choices, and ultimately shape their futures.
