The first trailer for the sixth movie, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, was released on November 20th, offering a first look at the characters. The trailer focuses on Haymitch Abernathy, who will be played by Joseph Zada – a role previously made famous by Woody Harrelson – and introduces many of the other important characters in the new story.

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping drops exciting first looks at the main characters

The new trailer reveals what happened during the 50th Hunger Games, a special edition called the Quarter Quell. This year, each district sends twice as many tributes to compete. We see how Haymitch Abernathy, played by Joseph Zada, is chosen to represent District 12 and must fight for his own survival to protect his loved ones back home. As a brutal battle begins, President Snow observes the unfolding events. You can watch the trailer below.

As a lifestyle expert, I’m so excited about the cast for this prequel! Elle Fanning is taking on the role of young Effie Trinket, and Ralph Fiennes is absolutely perfect as a young President Snow. We’ll also see Kieran Culkin as Caesar Flickerman, the iconic Hunger Games host, and Jesse Plemons as a younger Plutarch Heavensbee. It’s a stellar lineup overall, with amazing additions like Kelvin Harrison Jr., Glenn Close, Maya Hawke, McKenna Grace, Billy Porter, Lili Taylor, Whitney Peak, Ben Wang, Molly McCann, Iona Bell, Edvin Ryding, Kara Tointon, and Percy Daggs IV. It’s going to be a fantastic watch!

“The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping” continues the story after the 2023 film, “The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes,” and takes place before the original “Hunger Games” movie from 2012. The film is adapted from Suzanne Collins’ 2025 novel of the same name.

I’m so excited! Francis Lawrence is returning to direct the next Hunger Games movie, and I’ve heard most of it will be filmed in Spain, which sounds amazing. We can finally mark our calendars – November 20, 2026 is the release date in the US and Canada! I’ve been waiting for this for so long.
