Where Winds Meet has a lot to offer players, with various activities to enjoy both alone and with friends. However, some of the game modes can be a little unclear. This guide will explain how the solo, co-op, and online modes work in Where Winds Meet, so you can jump right in and start playing!

Solo Mode

Many players consider solo mode to be the core way to experience Where Winds Meet. It’s similar to playing Genshin Impact – you explore your own world, gather resources, and complete challenges. You’ll make the most progress here, especially with the main story, as those quests are exclusive to solo play.

It’s best to focus on this game mode for the majority of your time to make progress – things like leveling up and unlocking new abilities. Once you’ve gotten a good start on your own, you can team up with friends and other players to enjoy the game’s content together. But it’s generally better to get established on your own first before joining or visiting other players.

Co-Op Mode

I was really happy to see the co-op mode in Where Winds Meet feels more fleshed out than in some other games. It’s not perfect – you can’t tackle the main story with a friend, and honestly, solo play is still the way to go for that. But it does give you a lot to do together! We can hit up campaign side stuff, take on outposts as a team, and even explore the world together, which is awesome.

We tested the co-op mode by inviting a colleague to join our game. We were surprised at how easily we could defeat enemies, including even some of the tougher bosses you find early on. Players can open chests together and share the loot as long as they’re nearby. While the host still needs to handle certain tasks in dungeons or special areas, the co-op mode feels well-developed and is something we’d like to see implemented in more games.

The game also features a shop where you can use in-game currency to buy cosmetic items and other goodies. Plus, you can visit friends’ worlds and build relationships with their characters, unlocking new content as you play together. Overall, the co-op mode in Where Winds Meet is truly exceptional. It would be even better if the combat felt more synchronized and if you could play through the main story with friends.

MMO (Online) Mode

Finally, there’s the online mode of Where Winds Meet, often described as the MMO or social multiplayer experience – and for good reason. Unlike the single-player and co-op modes, you won’t find enemies roaming the open world. It’s primarily about socializing – you’ll see many players moving around, chatting, and even playing music together in real-time. While combat does exist, it mostly takes place in separate instances, making this mode ideal for meeting other players before tackling challenges together.

You can still enjoy some of the green quests on the map, use teleport stones, and even activate new ones that will be available in your world. While it’s not a fully multiplayer experience like a traditional MMO, it does offer a social aspect with opportunities for combat and exploration.

If you prefer to play at your own speed and fully explore the game, solo mode is the best choice. For those who want to team up for boss fights, exploration, and optional challenges, co-op is ideal. And if you’re looking for a more relaxed experience and a chance to meet other players, online play is the way to go.
