I love how games always find a way to celebrate! So many of my favorites have these amazing festivals and holidays that really bring everyone together. They’ll change up the game world with special decorations, add fun little quests, and offer exclusive rewards you can only get during the event. It’s a great way for developers to keep things fresh and make the game feel alive, especially as the seasons change. I’ve seen some really fantastic events over the years, and I’m excited to share a few of the best ones that consistently deliver fun and cool loot!
Animal Crossing: New Horizons
In Nintendo’s island life game, special events happen regularly, including seasonal celebrations like Bunny Day and Toy Day, as well as competitions like fishing and bug-catching tournaments. Throughout the summer, there are also weekly fireworks shows featuring unique designs. These events bring changes to the island – villagers talk about them, decorations appear in the town square, and Isabelle gives out special items. Players can find new recipes and materials to create limited-edition furniture and clothing. Nintendo uses the system clock to ensure these events return on schedule, while also adding fresh content and small improvements each time.
Final Fantasy XIV Online
Final Fantasy XIV regularly hosts in-game events like the Starlight Celebration and Hatching-tide, bringing limited-time quests and unique items to the world of Eorzea. These events transform areas with festive decorations and music, and introduce charming new characters through short stories and cutscenes. ArenaNet is bringing festive celebrations to the world of Tyria! Events like Shadow of the Mad King, Dragon Bash, and Wintersday will transform Lion’s Arch and surrounding areas. Players can enjoy unique activities like navigating challenging labyrinths, completing tricky jumping puzzles, having snowball fights, and racing mounts—all themed around each festival. Special currencies earned during the events, such as Candy Corn and Snowflakes, can be exchanged for exclusive items like weapon skins, miniature pets, and outfits from temporary vendors. The Elder Scrolls Online
Throughout the year, ZeniMax Online Studios hosts festive in-game events like the New Life, Witches, and Jester’s Festivals, which are open to all players regardless of their alliance. During events, cities are beautifully decorated with lanterns or festive designs, and players can enjoy new story quests featuring familiar characters. Before each event ends, players can spend their rewards at a special shop to get resources for improving their characters and unique cosmetic items.
Monster Hunter: World
Capcom regularly updates the Monster Hunter world with festive events like the Spring Blossom Fest and Summer Twilight Fest, bringing new quests and rotating old favorites. These events add decorations and music to the Gathering Hub, creating a lively atmosphere for players to enjoy together. As a Warframe player, I’m really loving the Nights of Naberus event! Digital Extremes has done a fantastic job adding some cozy winter vibes with things like the Tennobaum – it just feels really community-focused. The vendors on Deimos are constantly getting new, cool cosmetics and ephemeras, and I’m having fun decorating my ship with the event-themed decorations and glyphs. It’s great to see them encouraging us to team up and share resources with gifts and special alerts. And the best part? Even if you only play casually, there are special stores and daily rewards so everyone can get something festive!
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
Ubisoft Montreal transformed the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla settlement of Ravensthorpe into a festive winter fair with events like the Yule Festival. Players could participate in fun activities such as fighting tournaments, archery, and drinking games to win rewards like decorations and equipment. The festival also included quick quests featuring known characters and easy challenges. Special vendors and daily tasks offered players a consistent way to earn currency for customizing their longhouse and settlement.
Fortnite
Winterfest transforms the Fortnite island into a festive wonderland with special decorations and changes to familiar locations. Each day, players can visit the lodge to open a free gift, complete challenges, and earn exclusive rewards like gliders, emotes, and weapon skins that won’t be available after the event. The map gets a snowy makeover with new lighting, and fun items like snowball launchers add to the excitement. The Sims 4
With the new Seasons pack, Maxis lets players enjoy in-game holidays like Harvestfest, Winterfest, and Love Day by creating their own unique traditions. Sims can decorate, throw parties, and complete goals related to socializing or crafting to earn satisfaction points and special holiday rewards. You’ll even see festive characters like Father Winter appear during certain times, and they can potentially become part of your Sim’s family! The weather, clothing, and Sims’ moods will all change to match the holiday spirit throughout the neighborhoods.
Pokémon GO
As a Pokémon Go player, I always get excited when Niantic does their holiday events! They really change things up to match the time of year where I am. Suddenly, you see Pokémon dressed up for Halloween or winter, and special ones pop up in raids and through research. They make it super easy to get cool seasonal stuff like outfits and useful items with timed research and event boxes. Plus, the game world itself changes – the map looks different, and they even play seasonal music, so even my usual walking route feels fresh and festive during the celebrations.
