Bye Bye Springfield: Longtime Simpsons Character Officially Killed Off After 35 Seasons

As a longtime fan of The Simpsons, I was pretty surprised by a recent episode. They actually killed off a background character – Alice Glick, the church organist! It was a really sudden moment in the November 16th episode, and honestly, it felt a bit jarring to see a familiar face gone.

She unexpectedly died during a church service, shocking those who had admired her work for over thirty years.

Alice first appeared on The Simpsons in 1991, in an episode where Bart did chores to earn money for a valuable comic book. Throughout the show’s 35 seasons, she was voiced by both Cloris Leachman and Tress MacNeille and made numerous appearances.

In the Simpsons episode “Sashes to Sashes,” Springfield Elementary held a memorial service for Alice. Attendees discovered she had generously donated her entire fortune to the school, allowing them to create a new music program.

It was a warm moment that also made it clear her story had reached its end.

As a long-time viewer, I recall this isn’t the first time the show has hinted at her demise. Back in season 22, she was seriously injured by a faulty Robopet, and honestly, we all thought that was it! She did keep popping up, though – sometimes as herself, and even as a ghostly apparition. But this time feels…different. It’s a much more direct and unsettling situation, and I have a feeling this time it’s really happening.

Tim Long, an executive producer, confirmed to PEOPLE that the character Alice will not be returning to the show. He acknowledged that while her music will live on, the character herself is definitively gone.
