Twisted Metal Renewed for Season 3, New Showrunner Takes Over

Peacock has ordered a third season of Twisted Metal. David Reed will now be the showrunner and executive producer, taking over from Michael Jonathan Smith, who guided the series for its first two seasons and is moving on.

David Reed Joins as Showrunner

David Reed, known for his work on popular shows like The Boys, Supernatural, and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, is now leading this franchise. He has a deal with Sony Pictures Television and is an experienced storyteller in television, comics, and video games.

Reed joins Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick as executive producers. Will Arnett, Marc Forman (from Electric Ave), Anthony Mackie (Make It Gravy Productions), Jason Spire (Inspire Entertainment), Peter Principato (Artists First), Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan (PlayStation Productions), and Hermen Hulst from Sony Interactive Entertainment will also serve as executive producers.

Season 2 Viewership and Setup for Season 3

Peacock reported that the second season of Twisted Metal was a big hit, racking up 993 million minutes of viewing time and becoming the service’s second most popular returning original series.

The season finale introduces the storyline for the next season. Calypso frames John Doe and Quiet for a mass killing at the tournament, which starts a war between the Insiders and Outsiders. A scene after the credits shows John and Quiet getting ready for the challenges ahead.

The Show So Far

Based on the popular PlayStation game, Twisted Metal is a fast-paced, funny action show. The first season followed John as he transported a strange package through a dangerous, ruined world. Season 2 throws John and Quiet into Calypso’s deadly competition, bringing back familiar faces like Sweet Tooth (played by Joe Seanoa and Will Arnett) and introducing new characters like Dollface (Tiana Okoye).

Season 3 is now in active development.
