Bowen Yang Says ‘Wicked 3’ Isn’t Happening: “I Think We Leave It Here”

Bowen Yang thinks the “Wicked” movies are finished. When asked if a third “Wicked” film might happen, the “Saturday Night Live” star, who also appears in the series, indicated he feels the story is nicely concluded with “Wicked: For Good.”

While on the Variety On the Carpet red carpet, presented by Lexus, Justin Yang hinted that his character’s storyline might be ending. He jokingly suggested he could pitch a spinoff series focusing on his character, Pfannee, and ShenShen, played by Bronwyn James.

I’m planning to write a story inspired by ‘Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead,’ featuring characters created by both me and Bronwyn James.

“Wicked: For Good” picks up where last year’s “Wicked” left off, covering the second half of the popular Broadway musical. As the movie closely follows the stage show’s conclusion, there aren’t any current plans to make a third film.

Director Jon M. Chu hinted at potential future projects, saying, “We’re exploring a lot of different ideas right now. Let’s focus on celebrating this moment first.”

Yang expressed his enthusiasm for Ariana Grande’s upcoming return to host “Saturday Night Live” in December, with Cher performing as the musical guest. “I’m really looking forward to it. I’m so happy she’ll be there,” he stated.

Ariana Grande is really good at doing an impression of Cher. We actually did a sketch called ‘Christopher Walken Reunion’ where a lot of people did Cher impressions. I’m thinking of suggesting a ‘Cher Family Reunion’ sketch for the holidays, where everyone does their Cher impression.

Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande both attended the New York City premiere of “Wicked: For Good,” but neither spoke to reporters. Representatives from Universal explained that Erivo was unwell and had lost her voice, and Grande chose to skip interviews to support her co-star.

The premiere was also attended by Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Marissa Bode, Colman Domingo, Michelle Yeoh, and Jeff Goldblum. “Wicked: For Good” opens in theaters this Friday.
