Here Are All the Movies Releasing in Theaters This Week, Including ‘Altered’

As a total film buff, I’m really excited about what’s hitting theaters this week! We’ve got everything from a beautifully restored, older anime film that’s a bit of a hidden gem, to a fascinating documentary filmed all over the world. Plus, there are a bunch of really fun movies that fit neatly into popular genres. I’ve put together a quick guide for each film – who directed it, who’s in it, and what it’s all about – along with the release dates, so you can start making plans to see them all!

‘Angel’s Egg’ (1985)

Mamoru Oshii’s visually stunning and thought-provoking anime, created with artist Yoshitaka Amano, centers around a silent story of a girl protecting a strange egg and a boy haunted by lost memories of a bird. The film is known for its beautiful imagery, minimal dialogue, and evocative music by Yoshihiro Kanno. Featuring the voices of Mako Hyōdō and Jinpachi Nezu, and produced by Studio Deen, a newly restored version of this post-apocalyptic tale will be released worldwide in theaters on November 19, 2025.

‘Cactus Pears’ (2025)

Rohan Parashuram Kanawade’s film, also called ‘Sabar Bonda’ in India, tells the story of Anand, a man observing a 10-day mourning period who develops a meaningful connection with a local farmer. As the mourning period ends, Anand is faced with a difficult decision. The film stars Bhushaan Manoj, Suraaj Suman, and Jayshri Jagtap, and has been praised at film festivals for its sensitive portrayal of grief and a tender queer relationship. Neeraj Churi, Mohamed Khaki, Kaushik Ray, Hareesh Reddypalli, Naren Chandavarkar, and Sidharth Meer produced the film, which will be released in theaters on November 21, 2025.

‘The Shepherd and the Bear’ (2024)

Max Keegan’s documentary focuses on the conflicts that arose in the French Pyrenees mountains when brown bears were brought back. The film follows an older shepherd trying to find someone to take over his work, and a young person fascinated by tracking the bears. The score is by Amine Bouhafa, and the film was produced by Jesse Moss, Amanda McBaine, and others. It first premiered at the Camden International Film Festival on September 15, 2024, and was later shown at IDFA and Visions du Réel. The production involved several companies, including Willa, Salthill Films, Impact Partners, Pinky Promise, and Mile End Films. It will be released in theaters on November 21, 2025.

‘Killer Raccoons 2: Dark Christmas in the Dark’ (2019)

Directed by Travis Irvine, this hilarious sequel is a parody set during the holidays. It features a group of mischievous raccoons causing trouble on a train, and stars Yang Miller, Ron Lynch, Tom Lyons, and Zach Riedmaier. The film is a fun, over-the-top comedy with a satirical twist, appealing to fans of cult films. You can find information about the cast and crew on various film festival websites and online databases. It hits theaters November 21, 2025.

‘Wicked: For Good’ (2025)

Directed by Jon M. Chu, this film concludes the movie adaptation of the hit Broadway musical, with a script by Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox. It continues the story of Elphaba, played by Cynthia Erivo, and Glinda, played by Ariana Grande, and features returning cast members Jonathan Bailey, Michelle Yeoh, Ethan Slater, Marissa Bode, Jeff Goldblum, and Bowen Yang. The movie covers the second half of the stage show, exploring growing political tensions in Oz and the complex relationship between the two leads. Recent announcements suggest we’ll see more development in the stories of Boq and Fiyero. It arrives in theaters on November 21, 2025.

‘Sisu: Road to Revenge’ (2025)

Jalmari Helander is back with a sequel to his hit film ‘Sisu,’ once again starring Jorma Tommila as the incredibly resilient Aatami Korpi. Stephen Lang and Richard Brake also return for this new installment. The story follows Korpi as he attempts to move his family home—a place with a tragic history from the war—but finds himself pursued by a heartless commander from the Red Army. The film is a production of Subzero Film Entertainment and Good Chaos, and will be distributed internationally by Screen Gems/Stage 6. It’s scheduled for release in theaters on November 21, 2025.

‘Faster’ (2025)

I’m really excited about this new French action-comedy coming out! It’s directed and written by Morgan S. Dalibert, and stars Paola Locatelli, Alban Lenoir, Anne Marivin, Rik Kleve, and the fantastic Tchéky Karyo. Clément Miserez and Matthieu Warter of Radar Films produced it. It’s about an hour and 38 minutes long, and everything I’ve seen confirms Dalibert is the director and those are the main actors. Mark your calendars – it hits theaters November 21st, 2025!

‘Rental Family’ (2024)

Director Hikari’s new film, set in Tokyo, is a funny and touching story about an American actor (Brendan Fraser) down on his luck. He starts working for an unusual agency that provides ‘rental families’ – essentially, he pretends to be a relative for clients. As he gets deeper into the role, the line between acting and genuine connection begins to fade. The film also stars Takehiro Hira, Mari Yamamoto, Shannon Mahina Gorman, and Akira Emoto. It’s a collaboration between American and Japanese filmmakers, co-written by Hikari and Stephen Blahut, and premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2025. It will be released in U.S. theaters on November 21, 2025.

‘Altered’ (2024)

I’m really excited about Timo Vuorensola’s upcoming sci-fi action film! It’s set in the near future and explores a society divided by genetic engineering – it sounds fascinating. The story follows Leon and Chloe, who are basically fighting the system and the powerful people in charge. The cast is great too, with Tom Felton, Liza Bugulova, Richard Brake, Aggy K. Adams, and Igor Jijikine all involved. I heard it was filmed in Astana, Kazakhstan, which is a cool location. It’s being produced by Art Galaxy, Splendid Entertainment, and Studio Atlantic, and Well Go USA is releasing it here in the States on November 21, 2025. I’ve already marked my calendar!

‘Final Vow’ (2023)

Ruben Islas directs this suspenseful thriller starring Christina Urias as Sister Anne Marie, a nun dedicated to rescuing children from human trafficking and finding them secure homes. The film also features Oscar Torre and Luis Gatica. It has been shown at several independent film festivals, including the Boston International Film Festival. The story focuses on how Sister Anne Marie’s past experiences impact the dangers she faces while working with Talitha Kum, a global network of nuns fighting human trafficking. It will be released in theaters on November 21, 2025.
