The 5 Wildest STRANGER THINGS 5 Theories On the Internet

With the fifth season of Stranger Things coming soon, fans are buzzing online, excitedly discussing what might happen. Everyone’s wondering who will survive, what secrets will be revealed, and what big questions the show will finally answer. There are more fan theories than there are actual questions at this point, and people are really letting their imaginations run wild! We can’t cover every single theory out there, but here are some of the most surprising and creative ones we’ve come across recently.

The Real Will Is Still in Upside Down

There’s a fascinating theory circulating about Stranger Things 5. It suggests that the Will Byers we’ve been watching isn’t the original, but a clone created by Vecna. While there’s always been a creepy connection between Will and Vecna, this reveal feels a bit late in the game – we’d expect to have seen hints earlier. Up until now, Will’s actions haven’t indicated he was secretly working against his friends, and his consistent character and obvious fear seem genuine. A twist like this would ultimately diminish all the growth and development Will has experienced throughout the series.

Erica Will Defeat Vecna

Fans on Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) are buzzing with a theory about who will ultimately defeat the villain Vecna in Stranger Things 5. They’re pointing to a scene in the first episode of season four where Dustin and Erica participate in a Dungeons & Dragons-style battle against Vecna. Erica wins while Dustin loses, leading some to believe she might be the one to finally defeat him. While she doesn’t have superpowers like Eleven, Erica is a resourceful and determined character, making this possibility surprisingly plausible.

Everyone Is in a Psychiatric Hospital… Or Playing a D&D Game

Let’s be honest, the idea that everything is happening inside a psychiatric hospital is a really flawed theory for several reasons. It feels insensitive to suggest that the characters’ struggles are just imagined, and it would also be a poor narrative choice, undoing all the progress the show has made. The theory about it all being a D&D game isn’t as bad, but even that would be an unsatisfying conclusion.

Eleven Will Defeat Vecna in Stranger Things 5 and Erase Everyone’s Memories of Her and the Upside Down

A popular theory about Stranger Things season 5 suggests Eleven will ultimately defeat Vecna by resetting everyone’s memories. This might be the only way to completely eliminate Vecna and the Upside Down’s power. Given Eleven’s growing abilities, it’s possible she’ll gain the power to erase memories on a large scale.

This season feels reminiscent of Spider-Man: No Way Home, but unfortunately doesn’t deliver in the same way. The storyline suggests Eleven will experience the devastating loss of her loved ones and be forced to observe their lives from a distance. Interestingly, one Reddit user pointed out that the creators mentioned Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind as an influence, and that film also features a comparable ending.

Eleven and Will Are Twins Separated at Birth

This theory is quite interesting but also convoluted. Here’s what one Redditor had to say:

Here’s what happened: Terry Ives met Henry while being experimented on by Dr. Brenner, who then monitored her pregnancy. Unbeknownst to Terry, she was carrying twins – Jane (Eleven) and Will. During a drug-induced C-section, she only saw Jane. Brenner tested both babies and, believing only Jane had powers, put Will up for adoption. Will was adopted by Joyce, who had recently experienced a miscarriage. So, Jane and Will are actually fraternal twins, and Will has always had subtle powers, like the ability to hide, which attracted Henry/One/Vecna to him. Will will discover his powers fully when he witnesses Jonathan’s death in a heroic sacrifice. Then, Will and Eleven will combine their powers to defeat Vecna, stripping him of his abilities and leaving him weakened, blind, and imprisoned in a cell next to his father. This event will lead Eleven to train Will in telekinesis, setting the stage for a future spin-off series.

Let’s think about all of that for a moment. The idea that Will has hidden powers that will eventually awaken actually fits quite well. It could explain his ongoing connection to the Upside Down and the Mind Flayer, and why Vecna didn’t kill him. However, it’s also appealing to think that everything surrounding Will wasn’t actually planned by Vecna. Maybe he’s just a unique, sensitive kid who naturally connects to the strange things happening in the Upside Down? This theory for Stranger Things 5 is interesting, but it feels a bit overly complicated. Ultimately, Vecna needs to be defeated, without question.

Look, as much as we love to speculate, it’s important to remember we’re just fans – we don’t know what the Duffer Brothers are really planning for the final season of Stranger Things. Until it actually airs in a few months, all these elaborate theories are just fun thought experiments. I’ll happily read them for entertainment, but I’m taking everything with a grain of salt until we get the real ending.
