New Look: New Images of ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ Released

Star Wars fans were excited to see a new image released from the upcoming movie, The Mandalorian and Grogu. Directed by Jon Favreau, who also co-wrote the script with Dave Filoni, the film picks up the story from the popular Disney+ series The Mandalorian (2019–2023).

The new film features Pedro Pascal reprising his role as Din Djarin, the Mandalorian, and his adventures with Grogu, the lovable and strong character he protects.

Sigourney Weaver will play Colonel Ward, a leader within the New Republic, and Jeremy Allen White will star as Rotta, the son of the late Jabba the Hutt. Jonny Coyne joins the cast as an Imperial warlord, commanding one of the last groups from the defeated Galactic Empire.

By February 2023, Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni had finished writing a fourth season of The Mandalorian. But, because of the Hollywood strikes that year, filming was put on hold. While waiting, Lucasfilm decided to make a movie instead, choosing to tell the next part of the Mandalorian story on the big screen.

The movie was first announced in January 2024, and filming took place in California from August to December that year.

Set after the defeat of the Galactic Empire, the story follows Din Djarin and Grogu as they work with the New Republic to combat remaining Imperial forces. Dave Filoni returns as the character Trapper Wolf, a New Republic X-wing pilot, and the film will also include appearances by characters like Garazeb “Zeb” Orrelios (from Star Wars Rebels) and members of the Anzellan species (seen in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker).

The Mandalorian and Grogu is scheduled to be released in the United States on May 22, 2026.
