Good news for fans of Attack the Block: a sequel is in the works! Director Edgar Wright recently revealed during a Reddit Q&A that while he isn’t involved this time, Joe Cornish – the creator of the first film – is currently developing the project.
“Not my movie, but Joe has written a sequel and hopes to make it next year,” Wright shared.
I first saw Attack the Block when it came out in 2011, and I instantly loved it! It’s about a bunch of teens in South London who have to defend their neighborhood when aliens start attacking. It didn’t make a ton of money in theaters, but everyone who saw it – critics and regular moviegoers like me – really appreciated how fresh and fun it was.
The movie featured John Boyega, who became a well-known actor after appearing in it, and also starred Jodie Whittaker, Alex Esmail, Franz Drameh, Leeon Jones, Simon Howard, Luke Treadaway, Jumayn Hunter, and Nick Frost.
For years, fans have wanted another installment in the series. It was officially confirmed in 2021 that John Boyega would reprise his leading role. Since then, news has been scarce, but Boyega recently shared that the script is now finished.
Fans are getting excited as production is scheduled to begin next year, finally continuing the story after more than ten years.
