Atlas Entertainment Sets ‘Redcoat’ Movie With Geoff Johns’ Ghost Machine

Geoff Johns is back in the film business.

Atlas Entertainment and Geoff Johns’ Ghost Machine are teaming up to adapt Johns’ comic book series, Redcoat, into a major motion picture.

According to Deadline, the movie adaptation is progressing, with Geoff Johns writing the script from a story he created alongside artist Bryan Hitch.

Released in April 2024, Redcoat quickly became a popular success for Ghost Machine and Image Comics, selling out immediately after launch.

Johns, Roven, and Ghost Machine Push the IP Strategy Forward

Charles Roven and Alex Gartner are producing the film through Atlas Entertainment, and Roven has highlighted the strong creative partnership between Geoff Johns and Zak Snyder.

The story centers on Simon Pure, a British soldier who runs away during the American Revolution and unexpectedly gains immortality. He then finds himself fighting against a secret plot to destroy the newly forming nation. Think of it as a grand, exciting historical adventure in the style of movies like Pirates of the Caribbean or Indiana Jones.

Gartner praised actor Zach Braff as a potential franchise leader, describing him as humorous, charming, and playfully mischievous – qualities that would make him ideal for starring in a long-running series of films.

Atlas Is Deep in the Ghost Machine Business

Deadline failed to disclose that Atlas Entertainment has invested in Ghost Machine. This likely explains why they’re quickly moving forward with a movie based on Redcoat.

The main goal of launching Ghost Machine’s comic books was to develop original stories owned by their creators and quickly adapt them into movies and TV shows, while retaining full ownership throughout the process.

Founded in 2023, Ghost Machine is a unique venture – the first multimedia universe entirely owned by its creators. Beyond the comic Redcoat, creator Geoff Johns also developed Geiger and Rook: Exodus, all with the goal of expanding into movies, TV shows, and other platforms.

The Geoff Johns and Charles Roven Connection

Geoff Johns and Charles Roven have worked together on DC projects for a long time.

Johns was a leading writer for DC Comics for many years before transitioning to film. He became a producer and key creative force behind movies like Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and the initial films in the DC Extended Universe.

For over ten years, Roven was a major producer on DC films, including hits like The Dark Knight Trilogy, Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, and Suicide Squad.

Johns and Roven both produced the theatrical release of Justice League and Wonder Woman 1984.
