‘IT: Welcome to Derry’ Tops HBO Max’s Top 10 Most-Watched Shows List of the Week

Wondering what to watch on HBO Max? This guide gives you a rundown of the current shows, explaining what they’re about, who stars in them, and what kind of entertainment they offer. Whether you’re in the mood for funny cartoons, relaxing reality TV, insightful talk shows, or fresh new series, you’ll find something to enjoy.

‘Baylen Out Loud’ (2025–)

I’m really enjoying ‘Baylen Out Loud’! It’s a show that follows Baylen Dupree and her family, and it’s so honest about what life is like living with Tourette syndrome. What I love is seeing Baylen work towards becoming more independent. You can watch it on TLC, or stream it the next day on HBO Max, which is super convenient. It’s a great mix of everyday family moments and bigger things happening in Baylen’s life, like her travels, job, and relationships. You can totally follow the whole season as one story, but it’s also easy to jump in and watch just one episode if you’re looking for something specific.

‘Last Week Tonight with John Oliver’ (2014–)

John Oliver’s ‘Last Week Tonight’ offers in-depth investigations of important issues – from politics to culture – along with quick updates on current events. Each week, the show focuses on a single complex topic, presenting well-researched information with the help of visuals and humor. New episodes are available on HBO and later on HBO Max, and detailed transcripts and extra content can be found online after they air.

‘Adventure Time: Fionna & Cake’ (2023–)

As a huge ‘Adventure Time’ fan, I was so excited for ‘Fionna & Cake,’ and it totally delivered! It takes everything I loved about the original – the heart, the weirdness, the fantastic world-building – and throws Fionna, Cake, and Simon into a multiverse of adventures. Adam Muto really nailed it. It’s a bit more grown-up, but still has that playful spirit. You can find it streaming on HBO Max, and whether you’re new to the series or a longtime fan, there’s something for everyone. They do these cool standalone episodes, but also build out these really engaging character arcs that span different dimensions. It’s a fantastic addition to the ‘Adventure Time’ universe!

‘Holiday Baking Championship’ (2014–)

‘Holiday Baking Championship’ brings together both amateur and professional bakers to compete in fun, holiday-themed dessert challenges. Each week, they’re given a new task – think pies, cookies, or showstopping cakes – and bakers are eliminated until only one remains. New seasons air during the holidays, and you can watch past and current episodes on HBO Max. Get ready for impressive baking skills, exciting pressure, and plenty of ideas for your own holiday treats!

‘Alex vs ARod’ (2025)

“Alex vs. A-Rod” is a documentary series telling the story of Alex Rodriguez’s career, from his early success to the challenges and scandals he faced, and his attempt to rebuild his reputation. The series features recent interviews, old footage, and expert sports commentary, covering both his biggest achievements and his personal struggles. It’s a short series made to be watched all at once on HBO Max, taking viewers through the key moments of his career, his suspensions, and the intense media attention he received.

‘I Love LA’ (2025–)

As a total film and TV buff, I’m really excited about ‘I Love LA’! It’s a new half-hour comedy series created by and starring Rachel Sennott, and it’s all about a group of friends figuring things out as they reconnect in Los Angeles. The cast is fantastic – Odessa A’zion, True Whitaker, Jordan Firstman, and even Josh Hutcherson are all in it. It’s dropping weekly on HBO and streaming on HBO Max, and from what I’ve heard, it’s a really relatable show about messy relationships, chasing your dreams, and just hanging out in LA. It seems like it’s focused on really strong characters and their stories, which is always a good sign!

‘Real Time with Bill Maher’ (2003–)

‘Real Time with Bill Maher’ is a show that dives into politics, culture, and the news through discussions with guests and Bill Maher’s own commentary. Each episode starts with Maher’s monologue, followed by a panel discussion and regular segments breaking down the week’s biggest stories. You can watch it on HBO and stream it on HBO Max soon after it airs. The show features a diverse range of guests, including journalists, politicians, celebrities, and writers.

‘The Chair Company’ (2025–)

“The Chair Company” is a comedy-thriller series about an office worker whose life is turned upside down after a humiliating public moment. Created by Tim Robinson and Zach Kanin, the show blends awkward, funny situations with mystery and suspense. It stars Tim Robinson, along with Lake Bell and Sophia Lillis. New episodes air on HBO and are available to stream on HBO Max. Each episode is less than an hour long, making it a fast-paced series that gradually reveals a bigger story.

‘Smiling Friends’ (2020–)

‘Smiling Friends’ follows Charlie and Pim, employees of a small company dedicated to helping people – though their solutions are often bizarre and unpredictable. Created by Michael Cusack and Zach Hadel, the show combines quick, funny moments with unique and dreamlike animation. You can watch new episodes and special installments on HBO Max after they first air on Adult Swim. Each part of the series is short and stands alone, making it perfect for quick viewing and sharing.

‘IT: Welcome to Derry’ (2025–)

‘IT: Welcome to Derry’ is a new series that tells the story of how terror first gripped the town of Derry, focusing on a family who encounters Pennywise. Created by the same team behind the recent ‘IT’ movies – Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and Jason Fuchs – the series unfolds weekly on HBO and is also available to stream on HBO Max. Set in the early 1960s, it features a growing cast of characters and explores the origins of the frightening events fans are already familiar with.
