‘Owl House’ Creator Tells Fans to Cancel Disney+ and Pirate the Show: “Pirate Owl House. I don’t care”

Okay, so this is wild. Dana Terrace, the brilliant mind behind Disney’s The Owl House, is actually asking fans to cancel their Disney+ subscriptions and, believe it or not, pirate her show. It’s a pretty bold move, and speaks volumes about the issues she has with how Disney handled the series. She’s essentially saying she’d rather you watch it anywhere than give Disney your money, and it’s a really powerful statement about creator rights and how shows are treated after cancellation.

Following Disney CEO Bob Iger’s announcement that Disney+ would soon include AI-generated tools and short videos created by users, Dana Terrace, creator of The Owl House, posted on X (formerly Twitter) that she was canceling her subscription and would instead find the show illegally online. She expressed strong disapproval of generative AI with a profanity-laced statement.

Terrace is a respected animator who contributed to the popular show Gravity Falls as a storyboard artist. She worked alongside the show’s creator, Alex Hirsch, who later helped develop The Owl House as a creative consultant.

Terrace has directed episodes of the recent DuckTales series and contributed to the art department for Netflix’s The Mitchells vs. the Machines.

After The Owl House finished in 2023—a conclusion that sparked some debate—creator Dana Terrace has shifted her focus to adult animation. She’s now developing Knights of Guinevere with the independent studio Glitch Productions.
