Recent court filings reveal Justin Baldoni confided in friends while experiencing conflict with Blake Lively during the filming of “It Ends With Us.”
The text messages were made public when Baldoni’s lawyers filed them as part of his legal battle with Lively. The messages came from a group chat on January 5, 2024, that included Baldoni, Rainn Wilson, Travis Van Winkle, Andy Grammer, and producer Jamey Heath.
Rainn Wilson started the conversation by asking for an update. Then, Justin Baldoni shared that he’d had a difficult night, explaining that Ryan Reynolds had spoken to him in a way that felt critical and disrespectful.
According to Baldoni, Reynolds claimed he and Heath weren’t being truthful and also wondered if they should be hosting a podcast.
Baldoni shared with his friends that he was shocked by some of the language used during a conversation. He explained that the words “creepy” and “abuse” were used to describe his behavior. He also admitted he was caught off guard and didn’t know how to respond because he was so surprised.
He explained that he was told what to say and expected to apologize, but he couldn’t because he was too shocked and confused by what was happening.
He believed the situation wasn’t fair, but he thought the best way to handle the conversation was to understand and acknowledge Lively and Reynolds’ feelings. As Baldoni explained, he felt it was unfair, but the only option was to apologize, accept the husband’s anger, and validate how they both felt.
Wilson immediately reacted to the news, saying he was shocked by what happened. He wrote, “Oh my God. I can’t believe it. You were deliberately tricked and ambushed, and personally attacked. I’m stunned.” Wilson explained that he understood why Baldoni was caught off guard and even suggested that an immediate apology might not have been the best course of action. He also thanked Heath for intervening and encouraged Baldoni to concentrate on completing the film.
The dispute escalated last year when Blake Lively filed a complaint with California’s Civil Rights Department on December 20, 2024.
Lively accused Baldoni of sexual harassment and claimed he made her workplace uncomfortable. Baldoni then sued Lively and Reynolds for defamation, but the lawsuit was dropped. Recently, on November 12th, Baldoni asked the court to dismiss Lively’s claims of harassment. A hearing for that case is set for March.
