New Reports Reveal Huge Production Shift for ‘Doctor Strange’ 3

Marvel Studios is reportedly starting work on a third Doctor Strange movie. This is the first significant news about a new solo film for the character since ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ came out in 2022. Sources say Marvel is currently searching for a director for the project.

The second movie faced some challenges during development. Initially, Marvel planned for Scott Derrickson to direct the sequel, and they described it as their first attempt at a truly scary, horror-themed film within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Originally, the plan was for Doctor Strange and Wanda Maximoff to be central to the story. However, director Scott Derrickson left the project due to disagreements with Marvel, and Sam Raimi replaced him. Writer Michael Waldron then revised the script, and production faced further setbacks when COVID-19 caused delays and more changes.

Elizabeth Olsen found out just three weeks before filming began that her character, Wanda, would be the movie’s villain. She had expected the film to continue the story arc from the WandaVision series. However, director Sam Raimi and writer Michael Waldron made a lot of changes while they were shooting. The movie ends with Doctor Strange meeting Clea, played by Charlize Theron, hinting at what his next adventure will be.

According to Nexus Point News, Benedict Cumberbatch is now heavily involved in the initial planning stages for the upcoming movie. He’s participating in discussions to select the director and writer, and the report suggests he’s interested in Sam Mendes, despite Mendes currently being committed to other projects.

According to reports, Marvel doesn’t plan to have Sam Raimi or Michael Waldron involved in the next installment. Filming won’t begin until after ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ wraps up, so it could be a considerable wait before production gets underway.

Ever since the release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it’s been uncertain what’s next for the character. The film concluded with a scene involving Clea, hinting at a potential continuation of the story.

Fans became curious when Benedict Cumberbatch and Charlize Theron weren’t listed among the actors in ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ leading to speculation about whether Marvel would continue that story in a future project, possibly ‘Doctor Strange 3’.

If the new report is accurate, it appears Marvel is finally ready to move forward.
