Frank Grillo Confirmed for Man of Tomorrow, James Gunn’s Superman Sequel

Frank Grillo will reprise his role as Rick Flag Sr. in the upcoming movie Man of Tomorrow, which is a sequel to James Gunn’s Superman film.

I just read an interview with Joe Manganiello where he said his character will be really important in the next movie! It sounds like James Gunn is definitely continuing the story from the end of Peacemaker Season 1, which is awesome.

“My character, Rick Flag Sr., is a big part of the sequel’s story, so I’m excited about it,” he said.

How Peacemaker Sets Up Rick Flag Sr.’s Role

Okay, so the season finale was wild! Rick Flag Sr. used this alien tech Peacemaker had – it opens up different dimensions – to build a prison for super-powered people. But things went wrong, and Peacemaker himself got stuck on the other side! What’s even more exciting is that the finale definitely suggested this whole dimensional mess isn’t over, and James Gunn has a lot of potential to tie Peacemaker directly into his upcoming Superman movie. I’m really hyped to see how it all connects!

Now that James Gunn has indicated Flag Sr. will play a key role in the next film, it seems alien technology will be a central part of the story. This fits with Gunn’s overall plan to expand the DC Universe into more large-scale, cosmic adventures.

Superman, Lex Luthor, and a Bigger Threat

The upcoming film, Man of Tomorrow, will likely show Superman, played by David Corenswet, joining forces with Nicolas Hoult as Lex Luthor to battle a bigger enemy.

Initially, many fans thought Brainiac would be the villain. However, recent clues suggest a different character is more likely: The Centre, as we discussed recently.

Why The Centre Fits the Sequel

We recently explained how The Centre fits with James Gunn’s plans for the DC Universe. This creature connects to the existing lore of superpowered individuals and possesses immense destructive potential, capable of triggering a major crisis – similar to what was hinted at in the show Peacemaker.

James Gunn’s vision for the DC Universe has already proven controversial, and selecting The Centre as the main antagonist, rather than a classic villain like Brainiac, would fit with his tendency to make unexpected and potentially polarizing choices.
