A previously unreleased recording of Zac Efron singing “Get’cha Head in the Game” from the original “High School Musical” has surfaced online, and fans have varying opinions about it. The demo was shared on social media Tuesday and features a performance from the 2006 Disney Channel movie.
Even though Zac Efron starred as Troy Bolton in the movie, Drew Seeley actually sang the songs for the first film’s soundtrack. A short, two-minute video shows Efron singing the song while filming, offering a unique look at how his voice originally sounded.

Not everyone enjoyed the performance. One viewer described it as “a mess,” while another jokingly complained it was painful to listen to, saying, “Thank goodness for Drew Seeley… my ears were bleeding!” However, they added that his performance of ‘Bet On It’ was good enough to forgive the earlier issues.
Some people clarified that Zac Efron’s singing wasn’t bad, but the songs in the first movie were originally created for Drew Seeley’s vocal range. As director and choreographer Kenny Ortega explained, the music in the first film was specifically written for Seeley, whereas the subsequent two movies had arrangements better suited to Efron’s voice.
I remember when everyone wondered why Zac Efron didn’t sing in the first High School Musical movie! But then he started singing for himself in High School Musical 2 and 3, and even in Hairspray! It became so clear – he wasn’t a bad singer at all, he just needed the right songs to really shine. Now it all makes sense, and honestly, it’s awesome to see how much his voice developed!
The video is bringing back memories for some, while others are looking critically at how the “High School Musical” series began, offering a glimpse into its origins.
