China’s gaming industry is becoming increasingly prominent, consistently releasing high-quality games, and Where Winds Meet is another excellent example of their growing success.
The game from Everstone Studios, published by NetEase Games, was a big hit when it launched in December 2024 in its home country. Now, with over 10 million people already signed up, the global launch is expected to be just as successful.
I got a chance to play Where Winds Meet for a limited time, and I’m happy to say it’s a fantastic example of how good free-to-play games can be.
A World of Possibilities

When you first start playing Where Winds Meet, you’ll immediately notice how large the game is – both the download size and the expansive world you can explore are quite significant.
I doubted the developer’s promise of over 100 hours of single-player content, but even though I haven’t played that long yet, my experience confirms it’s true.
Where Winds Meet is full of things to discover – you won’t go far without finding a new quest, a spontaneous event, a puzzle, or a fight. The combat isn’t revolutionary, but it’s accessible and enjoyable, and you can easily adjust the difficulty to your liking with plenty of customization options.
Considering how expansive the game world is, I was surprised by how much there was to do – I didn’t find any empty or pointless areas, and that’s without even trying the multiplayer features.
Just One More Fight…
My biggest challenge in the game was figuring out what to prioritize. I usually try to find everything a game has to offer, but Where Winds Meet is different – it seems like it’s impossible to fully complete everything!
I kept getting sidetracked by interesting things in the game – whether it was solving a puzzle or battling an enemy – and I couldn’t resist taking on extra quests. Every time I decided to stop playing, something else would grab my attention, and I’d end up playing for even longer. It was a never-ending cycle.
Even though I mostly played the game by myself, I still had funny interactions with other players. In Where Winds Meet, you can leave signs for others to find. Some people used these to help with puzzles, while others mischievously encouraged me to do things like use my new powers to push an old man into the river!
These little details showed just how expansive Where Winds Meet could become, and that potential will be greatly increased when…
A Fine Example of F2P’s Strengths
Honestly, playing Where Winds Meet, I just kept thinking how incredible it is that it’s free to play! It seriously feels like a full, premium game, and I couldn’t believe I wasn’t paying for it.
The game offers many optional purchases, but they mostly involve cosmetic items that don’t affect gameplay. Some purchases can speed things up by giving you extra in-game currency to buy items and upgrades.
Where Winds Meet offers a huge amount of content, a vast world to discover, and both cooperative and competitive multiplayer options. It’s packed with things to do, and could easily have been sold as a full-price game, offering excellent value for its size and scope.
It’s amazing that you can experience all of this completely free, especially as the cost of major video games keeps going up. This could really change how people see things in the gaming world.
Verdict: 4/5 – Great
