‘Super Mario Galaxy’ Trailer Launches: Chris Pratt, Jack Black, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day Return for 2026 Sequel

The first trailer for the new Super Mario Bros. movie is here, offering fans a sneak peek at the highly anticipated sequel.

This movie, released in 2023, will be in US theaters on April 3, 2026, and will be available in Japan starting April 24th.

Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic are directing the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy movie, written by Matthew Fogel. Illumination is producing the film in collaboration with Nintendo, and Universal Pictures will handle distribution.

The movie is bringing back most of the original voice cast, with Chris Pratt returning as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek. Joining them in the sequel are new cast members Brie Larson, who will voice Rosalina, and Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr.

Back in May 2021, Nintendo’s president, Shuntaro Furukawa, hinted that they’d consider making more animated movies if the first Mario film did well. Chris Meledandri, the head of Illumination, also suggested before the 2023 movie came out that a sequel wasn’t out of the question.

Following the huge success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Illumination confirmed in March 2024 that they are making a sequel. Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic will direct again, and Matthew Fogel is writing the script.

The first trailer offers a sneak peek at the familiar Mushroom Kingdom and its beloved characters, suggesting exciting new adventures that will take them to outer space. Fans will hear Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, and Jack Black returning as their characters, alongside new additions played by Brie Larson and Benny Safdie.
