Tom Felton Stuns Broadway as Draco Malfoy Returns in ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’

Tom Felton, famous for playing Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter films, recently made his Broadway debut in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child to a wildly enthusiastic reception. Fans were thrilled to see him reprise the iconic, sarcastic Slytherin character on stage.

The audience exploded with excitement as soon as Felton appeared on stage. They applauded continuously for nearly thirty seconds.

He stood on stage, taking in the atmosphere with a smile, before speaking his first line: “I need a favor.” The special moment was filmed and posted on the official Instagram account for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. The post included a playful quote from the first Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone: “It’s true then, what they’re saying on the train.”

Set nearly twenty years after the original Harry Potter books, The Cursed Child tells the story of a new generation – the children of Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Draco – as they start their time at Hogwarts and embark on their own adventures.

The play debuted in London in 2016 and then moved to Broadway in 2018. However, this is the first time anyone from the original movie series has appeared in the stage version.

Fans were excited when it was announced back in June that Felton would be joining the show, and he’s scheduled to perform for 19 weeks. He described his return as a very emotional experience, explaining that he even cried when he put on the blond wig for the production. It brought back a lot of memories for him.

Tom Felton discussed the challenge of revisiting his character, Draco Malfoy, after many years. He explained that while it’s familiar to reprise the role, playing an older Draco feels completely new. He feels he understands the character as a child, but not as the adult he is now.

Tom Felton’s return to the Harry Potter world has successfully connected the original movies with the current stage production, delighting longtime fans with a wave of familiar feelings. The enthusiastic response from the Broadway crowd proves that both Draco Malfoy and Tom Felton still have a strong connection with audiences.
