‘Pokémon Scarlet & Violet’ Mistakes You’ll Never Be Able to Unsee

As a huge fan of the open world in Paldea, I have to say it’s amazing being able to explore so freely! But after spending a lot of time playing, I started noticing some little things that aren’t quite perfect. It’s not game-breaking stuff – I was still able to finish the story just fine – but things like occasional slowdown or weirdness with the menus definitely added up. Once you start looking, you see them everywhere! I’ve put together a list of the ten most common issues players keep running into, those little quirks and glitches that can be a bit annoying after a while.

Distant NPCs Animating at a Handful of Frames

To help the game run smoothly in busy areas like the plazas and stairs of Mesagoza, characters far away from you will move with very simple, choppy animations. As you get closer, their movements will become much smoother. This is a common technique to improve performance, but it’s noticeable here on things like windmills, signs, and people on bikes. You might even see characters suddenly switch from choppy to smooth motion right before your eyes, making crowds appear jerky until you approach them.

Overworld Frame Rate Dips in Busy or Vertical Areas

Areas with lots of detailed structures – like cities, busy streets, waterfalls, or deep canyons – can cause the game’s speed to drop. Things like weather effects, large groups of people, and having many Pokémon appear at once also put a strain on the system, especially when running or flying. This can make the game feel jerky during camera movements, and actions like jumping or gliding might not always feel immediate. These slowdowns happen occasionally, but they tend to occur in the same locations on the map.

Camera and Model Clipping During Tera Raids

During some Tera Raids, the camera sometimes focuses on Pokémon or parts of the environment that are too large, causing parts of the models to appear to go through the screen. This can hide important details like when a move lands, status effects, or the boss’s shield. It happens more often with larger Terastallized Pokémon, as their special effects fill the screen and get in the way of the camera. While it doesn’t affect gameplay, it can make these already challenging raids even harder to follow.

HP “Rubberbanding” and Desync-Like Moments in Raids

In Tera Raids, it can sometimes look like a boss is regaining health after you attack. This happens because the game doesn’t process damage, shields, and time effects all at once – it does them in stages. The on-screen health bar doesn’t always update instantly to reflect these changes, which creates the illusion of healing. Network lag and how quickly your game processes information can make this even more noticeable. Rest assured, the boss isn’t actually healing; it just appears that way due to delayed updates, making it tricky to see your true progress.

Co-Op World Desync With Ride Pokémon

During battles in Union Circle, you might notice slight differences in how each player’s Koraidon or Miraidon moves – they might appear to jump, slide, or float a little strangely. This happens because the game doesn’t constantly update everyone’s exact position. When players use moves like Boost or Climb, their location can briefly seem out of sync. Things like falling, spinning, or jumping off a Pokémon might also look a little different for each player until the game catches up. However, important actions and interactions will always stay synchronized, even if the movements don’t look perfectly aligned.

No Overworld Audio Cue for Shiny Spawns

Shiny Pokémon in the Paldea region are different from those in some other games – they don’t have a unique sound when you encounter them. Because the color differences can be slight, it’s easy to overlook a shiny, especially in areas with a lot going on or during an outbreak event. The game’s ‘Let’s Go’ feature won’t automatically battle shiny Pokémon, which is good for keeping them safe, but it also means you need to carefully check for them visually. Many players zoom in and carefully look around each spawn point to make sure they don’t miss these rare finds.

Map Pins Struggle With Caves and Elevation

While dropping a pin marks a location, it doesn’t show whether that spot is on the surface, underwater, or inside a cave. This can be confusing in areas with multiple levels, like caves or complex structures, because the pin often appears above the actual entrance. Instead of simply walking in a straight line, players end up searching for a way to get to the right height. They often have to use clues from their environment and notes about the area to figure out exactly where the entrance is located.

Pop-In for Textures, Shadows, and Terrain Details

Nearby details like grass, shadows, and small objects sometimes appear suddenly as you get closer. This is more noticeable when you fast travel or ride quickly, as the game loads these elements in. You might also see shadows flicker around trees and buildings as they adjust. While the environment eventually loads completely, you can often see a clear line where the loading happens when looking at the horizon.

Occlusion and Soft Collisions Around Ledges

Sometimes, the way the game handles collisions with things like walls, rocks, and railings isn’t quite right, causing ride forms to get stuck or shake. Very rarely, using a boost while moving diagonally can let you slip through surfaces before the game corrects it, quickly returning you to a nearby spot. These issues usually happen on steep hills or around carefully designed parts of the levels. While you quickly regain control, the sudden loss of it can be disruptive when you’re trying to perform precise jumps or glides.

Raid Lobby “Communicating…” Bottlenecks

As a player, it’s super frustrating when I try to join or host a raid and get stuck on the “Communicating…” screen. It seems like when the game can’t find a match or lobbies fill up quickly, the screen just keeps spinning without telling me what’s going on. I end up waiting through multiple timeouts before I even try again! Playing with friends helps avoid this, but when I’m using the public boards, it happens a lot. Eventually, it does work, but the lack of clear information makes the whole process feel really unreliable, especially when a lot of people are online.
