Idris Elba is reprising his role as the iconic detective Luther in a new movie coming to Netflix. The film will continue the story fans love, featuring returning characters and a suspenseful plot set in London.
Ruth Wilson will reprise her role as the intelligent and unpredictable Alice Morgan. After sitting out last year’s film, Luther: The Fallen Sun, this marks her return to the Luther universe on the big screen. Dermot Crowley is also back as police superintendent Schenk, bringing another well-known face from the original series.
Jamie Payne, who previously directed episodes of the show and the first movie, is directing the film. The story, written by Luther creator Neil Cross, centers around a string of brutal and puzzling murders in London. Luther is secretly called in to assist with the investigation, and the film explores whether he can restore order despite facing opposition from all sides.

Payne expressed his enthusiasm for the new project, praising Neil’s ability to craft a compelling and suspenseful story that brings the cast back together. He was particularly happy to be working again with Idris Elba and Dermot Crowley in the world of Luther, and excited to reunite with Ruth Wilson as the complex character, Alice Morgan.
Neil Cross shared his deep connection to the show’s characters, explaining, “Luther, Alice, and Schenk feel like family to me. I’m always curious about what they’re up to and what challenges they might face, especially when Luther isn’t around to investigate the dark side of London. That’s why we decided to reunite and continue their story.”
Chernin Entertainment, Neil Cross, Idris Elba, Gina Carter, and Tim Lewis are producing the film through their production company, 22Summers. Shooting will begin in February.
Viewers of the show Luther can look forward to a new case featuring the detective’s signature dark and suspenseful atmosphere. The story will include both beloved characters and brand new dangers unfolding in London.
